Youve all heard a variation of this German song, im sure. So, anyone know that this song was more or less about the arms race? Now children, can anyone think of other (in)famous songs that have underlying political meaning; please exclude the obvious as fuck punk rock lyric examples.

I know “Fire & Rain” by James Taylor was about the Vietnam War, but everyone should know that one.

Even I'm not THAT right wing. What I do believe, is that we should have fought the war as a war, not vry over every single casualty. Although this applies in much greater degree to the korean war(where weended yp simply bombed the borderline between N, and S) but is also true in Vietnam.
(wow i'm still not banned, maybe Shrek will let it slide)...

"Go To Sleep" by Radiohead contains the lines:
We don't want a monster taking over
Take turns and tie 'em down
We don't want the loonies taking over
Take turns and tie 'em down
which is a reference to the fear of extremism (right wing or left wing) that is so prevelant in modern politics.

what do you wanna be?
would you fight for your country?
Leaders say: "Why dont you pick up a gun and shoot someone?"
But there only gonna protect you if the dollar sign is right. There's a war in every nation but we turn our heads tonight

"Fragile" by Sting (effects of War)

Songs by Metallica;
"One"
"For Whom The Bell Tolls"
"Master of Puppets" (I think it references governemt cotrol)
"Disposable Hero's"

But, then again, I've heard that if you translate the German lyrics for "99 Red Balloons" directly into english, it's royally f*cked up. "99 Dead Baboons"

Actually Dag I believe that was about his girlfriend/fiancee who died in a firey plane crash while trying to visit her parents.

Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue was aimed at the Reagan administration as was one (I can't think of the title, sorry) on their Dr. Feelgood CD.

Actually, that's a common misconception. I may be wrong about the Vietnam War, but I do believe that Taylor said it wasn't about his girlfriend Suzanne.

I agree. What´s the point of having a very nice parking lot in exchange for bad relationships? What´s a parking lot with trees, anyways?
