I think it partly comes down to ignorance, and partly because people are absolute hypocrites and don't see what is so horribly disgusting about practically everything sexual.
In the past, oral sex was considered to be absolutely vile and sinful, yet now it is portrayed in a different light. And 'furry' isn't even doing anything; it's looking at pictures (since the furry fetish is what we seem to be discussing, rather than the whole persona thing)!

If you're going to hate on something supposedly so 'horrible', take a look at what you fantasize about from a third-person perspective, and take note of the disgusting aspects. There are plenty, I assure you.
