Heyo, some friends and I are working together at a camp and we all have Left4Dead and want to play together but we obviously don't have any internet connections.

So what do we need to do to set up some sort of playable LAN with our laptops?

Did you hear what I said? It gives you a boner!

If an idea exists, it is either possible or will be possible.

I was thinking if he had a router he could set up a wireless network right there somehow if the laptops have a wireless internal card.

Also, WHY are you playing video games at a camp?

my god go hiking or swimming or something

We have two months of this, and the lake is closed after nine. And hiking in the pitch black is a sure way to get lost.

Getting lost is most certainly the best way to work up a heart rate with a panic attack, though

You will need a decent switch, and a lot of ethernet cables.

You can try doing an ad-hoc network, but I never set one up.

Left4Dead Dedicated Server would be handy.
Plus a way to link all the Computers up will be needed (obviously). Try network cables with a switch or a bridge.

I assume it's possible :/ I'm on a uni network and can play LAN with anyone else in any of the halls of residence here, though when playing games like L4D we just host the games locally.. so WAN but since we're on the same network we all get 5-15 ping anyway :P Try asking someone at Valve, they must have support and they'll be much better than us at .. well.. helping.

Check steam forums, there's a tutorial on it. It's harder than doing it with normal games, but possible.
