Just remember that you have the right to refuse drinks to someone that you believe has had enough.

I was a bartender as well, just an inbetween job thing, and I had one night where the manager's friend had come, and after a while I could tell he has had enough. He was swaggering a little, kind of talking goofy but still coheirent. But I knew that he had reached the limit. He asked for 3 more shots, but I told him that he has had enough tonight.

Well the manager didn't like that, he told me, "Look, this is my friend here. He can have as many drinks as he wants. So sell him the shots or you are fired"

I told him that I have the right to refuse drinks by law, and that I wont serve him the drinks, since I could go to jail for it.

So he fired me, jackass. Was a crappy place too. Last I heard of it, the place was shut down.

Lucky man. One of my goals is to become a bartender, actually. I think it would be pretty awesome to be able to say I mix cocktails for complete strangers and listen to them speak. Hope your job continues going well 'n shit.

Lol, I've been working at a hotel for a couple months slinging drinks. I'm still at that stage where I'd prefer people to order four bottles of beer over a Jager bomb or some bullshit cocktail like Sourpuss and iced tea or a marijuana milkshake. SupJD is another bartender who gave me some really helpful tips on what to expect.

How are the patrons and the staff so far?

The other bartenders and the staff are what make or break the job, lucky for me we're like one big family and communicate well. One waitress has been at the hotel for about 12 years, I usually crack jokes about her height and call her old, she's just a tiny little thing who went RVing for a month with her husband, she's only 35 or so.

Bartending is great though. You get to see all of your friends and have a great time, and you get paid really well for it. Even though it's looked down upon, I think it's one of the most honest jobs out there, the harder you work the more you get paid; Unlike some job where you get paid by the hour and if you take 30 minutes longer because you're lazy then you get paid more.

What does a standard drink go for anyways?

And while you're at it make me a Bahama Mama, those are fucking delicious.

Pretty cool, Syko.
You'll probably get a lot of experiences and see a lot of interesting things working as a bartender.
You can always get writing as a secondary job/hobby as well.

When I worked in a ye olde pub I had to call the emergency services because some guy made another guy bleed from his head. I called them up and said "Hi, I'm at this pub, some guys has been bottled and I need an ambulance" and the guy on the phone said "What? So you want the hospital?" and I said "No, I want an ambulance, you know- to come here" and the guy said right, I'll put you through to the hospital". I explained my situation again and the guy says "Yeah, but why are you telling me? This is the police station."

The only time I ever called 999 and it's some dumbarse mook. You should be able to request an ambulance without having to call the hospital and bother them, and you've gotta connect calls for the emergency services you could at least not get it wrong. I know this hasn't got a lot to do with bar work, but your recent vocation experience made one of my suppressed memories float into vision.

Congrats btw, bar work can be very rewarding. Pay no attention to the perverts who resent being served by men because they like to have a chubby on when drinking in public.

Truth, this anecdote has none.

I'm a barman too! I give you 6 months before you hate your job, and all the punters.
:)

I was working last night and thought I'd get finished about 11 o'clock. I took the Sunday shift because I thought it would be a nice quiet one... but I'd forgotten Monday was a bank holiday. So it gets to 11 o'clock and the owners wander in and declare that they were having a lock-in for one of the staff's birthdays. A fact they'd neglected to tell me when I offered to take the shift. So about 12.30am they tell me that legally they can't pay me for any hours that I've done after 11pm... bastards.

Bartending is an interesting and higly stimulating job, just like Newgrounds is an interesting and highly stimulating website. The two go hand-in-hand.

I don't know, but if someone starts a club where we tell stories of interesting nights we've had, I'm totally in.
