Ok so yesterday I bought the Orange Box today and was like: "Yay".
I went home to install the game and I so happened to not have an internet connection. I was enraged that I couldn't install a game I paid for BECAUSE I HAD NO INTERNET CONNECTION!! That fact enraged me to no end as I always liked to have things not depend on anything and Steam shits on things being dependent.
SO today I got my internet back and went ahead installing Team Fortress II. I asked myself if I would be able to PLAY the game offline. Needless to say, I wasn't able to because the game was not ready. Further rage ensued as I found out I have to download and install all the fucking updates that are needed to PLAY the game offline. HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT MAKE SENSE!?!?
So I'm asking you experienced gamers, if by any chance there is a hack that bypasses all this fucking MADNESS that Steam so UNJUSTLY inflicts upon their customers. I ask for ANYTHING that would hinder Steam's control over my gaming.

Welcome to current PC industry.
Thanks to piracy, we have to put with more and more DRM.
Yes, it's retarded. You have to be connected to the internet even to play an offline game.

WHo dosen,t have an internet connection today ? Exept my grandmother, seriously...

SO today I got my internet back and went ahead installing Team Fortress II. I asked myself if I would be able to PLAY the game offline.

It's an online game who the fuck would want to even do that ?

Needless to say, I wasn't able to because the game was not ready. Further rage ensued as I found out I have to download and install all the fucking updates that are needed to PLAY the game offline. HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT MAKE SENSE!?!?

Well because they update their game with new content and because you cannot magically add stuff in already released CDs

So I'm asking you experienced gamers, if by any chance there is a hack that bypasses all this fucking MADNESS that Steam so UNJUSTLY inflicts upon their customers. I ask for ANYTHING that would hinder Steam's control over my gaming.

Steam's control over gaming is minimal, stop being mad for such trivial reasons, you sound like you got ADHD or something.

@VenomKing666:
Portal is part of the Orange Box. Are you saying that it is completely normal for you to need to be online to have to install it?
Also, imagine the scenario that you went for a vacation somewhere, and that location you went to does not have Internet. You brought your laptop and Orange Box only to find that you can't do shit with them.

What I do not understand is how the hell is that a problem ?
Also being online is just a verification, it's that or the shitty DRm fucking with your computer, I am also always online so there is no problem here.

Also, imagine the scenario that you went for a vacation somewhere, and that location you went to does not have Internet. You brought your laptop and Orange Box only to find that you can't do shit with them.

There is an offline mode where you can play Steam games offline, so there is no problem here.

In fact, the bigger problem is that when Steam servers are down you can't play.

I think it's one of those things you should research ahead of time.
Like if your computer can run Crysis.

You can't play TF2 offline anyway. There's no singleplayer, it's an online game and you need other people to kill and that can only happen if your internet works.

Either I am being trolled or people are fucking stupid. I mentioned TF 2 as AN EXAMPLE!! Another example would be PORTAL!! Ffs think about it? Why would you need to be connected to the internet to Install Portal? Why? Is there any reason other then their bullshit over secured steam verification shit?

He thinks it's twitter.

You need to connect online to link the game to your Steam Account and to update the game. There have been major bug patches, including Portal, since it's release. Also, you need to be online to get achievements and to play TF2. Bots aren't smart enough to play a game of TF2 offline.

This is a Prime piece of real estate below.

Wow. You have to be signed on to Steam, which means you need an Internet connection, which means you can get updates, which means you can play your games. Even the fucking offline games need to be updated almost everytime you sign on. Stop bitching.

Also, judging by your username, you know nothing about Steam.

It makes sense becuase you are downloading all the bug fixes and content updates. You can switch Steam to Offline mode, but I dont know why you would want to play TF2 offline..

It's funny because Steam is one of the best DRM systems available.

The hassle is minimal, there's no rootkit issues, all they ask is that you sign up for a Steam account and have an internet connection.

Hardly excessive.

Unless you want to go back to 10 years ago when a single CD-key was used on 100 systems, then getting key blocked from online play. Or would you rather have the shitty DRM that blocks you from installing the game more than 3 times?

Steam is by far the most effective method of piracy prevention as well as providing convenience.

The orange box games are now attached to your account. So now you can download the game content to any system you log in to, without requiring you to have the disc.

The benefits far outweigh the conditions. How hard is it for you to just connect to the internet?

All I'm gonna say is..
Get. Used. To. It.
Plus you can play your games without an internet connection, the only thing is you'll be playing alone. Or if you got L4D, with bots, which fails hard.

Unless you purchased it retail, you're gonna take a good while downloading everything as you're gonna be downloading both the game files AND the updates. If you had the CD it'd be much faster.

As for this question about Portal, yes, you do need to be connected to the internet to DOWNLOAD the GAME FILES which you can not bypass, or else you're just shooting yourself in the foot. You can PLAY the game once you finish downloading the files, you don't need to be online for that, unless you're trying for achievements (i think). Try downloading/updating one game at a time.
