What's all this talk of it's okay to use the word "fuck" on national TV if you use it in a adjective not meaning act of sex.
That's some fucked up shit.... Who cares if you cuss on TV? That's the stupidest FCC reasoning, or any moron would come up with.
Hell, Europe shows naked ass women on TV all the time.. .Why cant the US... we can barely say shit on TV? What kind of FCC bullshit rule is that?

20 years from now, the whole thing will seem ridiculous. 60 years ago there was a huge contraversy over using the word "damn" in Gone With the Wind. 50 years ago, you couldn't show married couples sleeping in the same bed. 20 years ago, you could be prosecuted for having foul language in music (see the Jello Biafra Frankenchrist trial for future reference). Restrictions have gradually been lifted as time passes, and will continue to be lifted. By 2050, little kids will be watching hardcore porn instead of cartoons on Saturday mornings.

Yeah, gradually the world grows more liberal, and gradually more things are accepted. I no no problem with bad language at all.

Maybe, but you also need a liscence to have a TV for some moronic reason.

Down with the FCC...
although my mom did make a good point with it...
without the FCC, what is to stop CBS, ABC, NBC from showing nothing but hardcore porn all the time?
and then what if cable decides to show nothing but bigotry shows, and nickelodeon is run off the air, cuz everyone is watching porn cuz its ok to... what do we do with 3 year olds that dont go to school but just want to watch rugrats or whatever?
throw them in front of the tv so they can watch porn too???
and yes i do agree with ya, the FCC is stupid....

This reminds me of that episode of South Park.
Basically, once it's used on TV, it's OK to use said word in the public domain, as it's legitimated. Or something. Yes, I deliberatly mealy-mouthed that one, as it's a stupid concept in the first place.
Besides, it's offensive to call sex "fucking", focus groups said so.
That's some fucked up shit.... Who cares if you cuss on TV? That's the stupidest FCC reasoning, or any moron would come up with.
You haven't seen how bloody stupid BBC editing/censoring can get. I'd give you examples, but I'm already getting a bout of SAD today, so don't need to make it worse.
Hell, Europe shows naked ass women on TV all the time.. .Why cant the US... we can barely say shit on TV? What kind of FCC bullshit rule is that?
Ah, not all of Europe. The liberated parts (France, Italy, Sweden etc.) can, but places like England can't. National psyche bullshit, mostly. That, and our old ladies have the Broadcasting Standards Commission on speed dial, read The Daily Mail, and we're governed by the Independent Television Commission - home of the "If in doubt - CUT" logic, and thinks that 22 complaints is tantamount to a riot.
OK, that was a rant - but whaddya expect from a Media student? It's been my coursework for six years...

You need a licence to have a TV because BBC1 and 2 are free, and supported by TV Licenses.

Wow, what an uptight prick. Say, Mr. Bible-thumper, when did the human body become filth? Filth is a mad-man dismembering a small child with a chainsaw. I didn't know that something that you yourself and everyone else has would be filth. I guess the fact that that might... oh... arouse someone or make somebody sexually excited really bugs you, but as far as I'm concerned, unless someone walks into your home and starts masturbating, there shouldn't be any trouble. I suppose someone else thinking sex or nudity or even, GASP, masturbation might bug you Hypo Christians, but it don't bother nobody else. If you are worried about kids, then here's what I think. Seeing a penis or vagina isn't going to scar little Timmy for the rest of his life, but having a freaky-feel meltdown about it is. So just relax a little, hypocrite. Unless you where born full clothed and never ever took a bath or shower, you've probably been naked yourself, and you know what else? I bet you weren't ashamed to be naked or see a naked man or woman (or hermaphrodite or whatever you are) in the mirror. Fighting your very nature as a human only makes life hell, it doesn't bring you closer to god or Jesus or Buddha or Phil the god of Ass or whoever the hell you get a hard-on believing in. Relax, because in another 70+/- years you going to be dead, so it won't really matter will it?... ha... you said penetrate...

That's a good point. I think it's only the UK with the TV license. But then, we do get BBC 1 and 2, which are the best channels in the world, so ther you go.

I’m glad the entertainment industry is taking a more progressive path, but it would be a shame if network television were to completely rid itself of family entertainment.

Well, there's PBS, that's publicly owned, but it doesn't have anything worth watching except Frontline. It's mostly just British sit-coms from the 70s. C-SPAN, I think, is owned by the government, and is basically just live video of the Senate voting on shit. Other than that, it's all privately owned.

I personnally don't care if there's foul language or not on tv. The only time where it make me uncomfortable is when im checking the tube with my parents. But then you have to think of the children. If cursing is ok on tv, then it must mean thats its ok for them to use it as well. Pretty soon we'll have a generation of people who curse more thna drunken' sailors!
I've noticed something intersting on tv. Sometimes when I watch a movie on some channels. the cursing is censored until 9 o clock. Its kind of odd really.

Not necessarily. You see murder on TV as well...

Yes, the 9:00 watershed. Things are censored before then. In the UK you are not allowed to show nudity of the genitals or breasts, or the word "fuck" or "cunt" before it, or excessively violent scenes.

What the fuck are you saying, sir? (I say fuck here like it's a adjective, not referring to rabbits reproducing the word fuck)...
So what are you trying to say here? err... So what the flying fuck are you trying to say here?
hmmmm... Is flying fuck... as in I don't give a flying fuck.. in that context referred to as a sexual act?

(Now that it's completely okay to say fuck, not in reference to sexual act)
Yeah, I think you're all fucked up and getting it all fucking mixed up.
There are fucking stations like fucking PBS, NPR, C-SPAN... and there are a lot of other fucking locally fucking sponsored stations, that broadcast a bunch of fucking local news and local fucking advertisements.
But nobody fucking watches those stations... because they don't fucking use high quality cameras, and the screen looks like a bunch fucking kids with a fucking video camera made the fucking movie.

The license also goes to pay for radio - so blind people get a discount due to not being able to se the TV (I'm serious here). Now, where's my discount for not watching BBC1, due to it being crap? Surely I get favours, due to tuning out ITV (or face damnation to eternal Ant & Dec), so I only need to pay for BBC2...even if the current batch of The Simpsons are pretty crap.
More research, less Caramel Macchiato...

If that's what the kids watch on saturday morning cartoons, I want to see what the adults watch on primetime when the kids are asleep.
You should look up the lyrics to "Hot Dog" by Limp Bizkit to see some interesting uses of the F word.
But what aggravates me about censorship of language, is that some TV organizations will censor the word "God" in the phrase "God damn it!"

Dude, it has to be HBO - The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, that's an advance of two top-notch shows over the BBC. Next point of discussion: How did Ardal O'Hanlon go from the fan-funky-tastic Father Ted to My Hero?

Ah, not all of Europe. The liberated parts (France, Italy, Sweden etc.) can, but places like England can't. National psyche bullshit, mostly.
most naked behinds are 'partly censored'- meaning just the crack, for some idiotic reason. But, remember that stupid 'love your bum' toilet roll advert? It had naked behinds, it was even on kids channels! That was on in Scotland so it must have been on in England.
Censorings just a load of rubish, kids minds are going to be corupted anyway when they start going to school! The word 'crap' has already made it onto the simpsons so whats stopping swearing?

Nah, Englands not that bad. There's nudity and swearing and stuff on TV, just not a lot before 9pm.

Yeah, and i've definately heard the word "fuck" before 9pm, and on a 12-rated film. It's actually illegal to say "cunt" in public though, in England, did you know that? That's why it can't be in any films shown on TV at all.

this ban will never follow through. i think it's just stupid. then again, if we ALLOW foul language on TV, irresponsible parents will have another scapegoat for their reasoning why their kid is so fucked up...god that pisses me off.
