Marijuana decriminalization . 2009-04-29 16:22:21 Reply

Marijuana decriminalization, legalization, and taxation. And it all could happen in this administration. Frankly, I believe this would lead to a pleathora of not just revinue, but drug cartels would be cut off at the knees. They would certainly receed from the U.S., and violence in Mexico would become a much easier thing to handle. All because we're such a huge market for them.

But for taxation, and revinue. Many states have large ammounts of debt, and quoting from this CNN article, "One California congresswoman says it would pump $1 billion into her state's budget alone every year." A billion a year, and that is just in revinue I think. Not even considering the giant job market that would spring up overnight if legalized. They figure that instead of state and local governments spending $44 billion a year to enforce drug prohibition, they could be making about $33 billion per year in tax revenue.

Now $33 billion may sound like chump change compared to the stimulus bill passed by Obama, but we wouldn't be arresting pot-heads anymore. We have 5% of the world's population, and 25% of the prison population in the U.S. Mainly from drugs users and pot users. We spend billions keeping all the smokers in prison. So not only getting rid of the failed "war" on drugs, we could earn $33 billion in tax revenue and untold billions in freed up prison costs.

I know I've gone on way too long, so I'll wait for the people to come complaining about how marijuana is so bad for you, etc. But give your thoughts and opinions on all of this. I think it's a great idea.

Tired, boring arguments. It's times like this that I wish I were a mod, so I could stop the 3 page shitstorm that follows in this thread.

I agree as well. The only thing that pisses me off is potheads who want petitions signed because "marijuana is good for making clothes, paper, and other shit, plus it's medicine" that's all bullshit. Potheads want marijuana legalized just so they can smoke it, why they won't admit that is beyond me.

I have nothing wrong with potheads smoking marijuana, if we allow cigarette smokers why not marijuana, but if you're trying to make it sound like a good thing by saying what good things marijuana can do and not really mean it then fuck you.

Just be honest.

I don't smoke pot, btw. I just know that this could be a great way for states to bring in more money, and for the federal government to stop wasting money on their efforts against drugs.

I'm surprised how people think legalization of weed is a good thing. It's so easy to not get caught, and it's gonna be really damn limited while legal.

Also, weed actually screws up your brain by wayyy more than you think.

Yup that's how it works. The only people who really want to legalize pot are people who don't even smoke it. Nearly every person I know who smokes pot does not want it legal.

If you can't afford it don't smoke it. It's not like you're addicted. But yes, many states need the money, and you live in one of them.

What a coincidence! I just posted a comment on another page about how marijuana could be considered the drug of Newgrounds. Also marijuana (or I guess just drugs) has it own page on Newgrounds Collections, so it is a recurring theme here. It's nice to see more posts like this being made.

People who are complaining about money.

I read at a few places that prices would probably be around $50 an ounce and $1 per joint. That's pretty good I would say... Usually an ounce of good regs can cost up to $100 or more on the street and a hell of a lot more if you wanted anything fancy...

No sources, just from what I can remember.

It's already decriminalized in California. You can basically say "I have insomnia, give me weed" and a doctor will sign off on it.

But yeah, by a financial standpoint, it should be legal. Although I think this subject has been discussed on Newgrounds numerous times.

Surely we all know these arguments off by heart by now. We know it's a good idea and we hope it happens.

How this thread will go:

Post 1: Old, stfu, etc.
Post 2: *another arugment for*
Post 3: *argument against*
Posts 4 - over 9000: *shitstorm*.

You're not broke at all if you have money to spend on grass.

Anyway, of course it should be legalised.

I personally don't take marijuana or really any kind of drugs, (except for perscription drugs, lol) but I do advocate for their legalization as I hear extremely good arguments for their legalization.

It's almost always the people who don't understand drugs or have never had any experience that attack it

Im for it, as long as they dont go overboard with taxes. Ill be happy if the prices are like amsterdam and the quality can be assured. The only thing we dont want is them to phase out stronger strains or have a per thc unit price like theyre planning to do with alcohol here in the UK.

If that happened id be getting it off the same people as i do now anyway.

Why the fuck does everyone think Obama will legalize weed, or that it would even be a good thing? Sure, taxes will bring in more money, but when you put it that ways, lets tax driving, breathing, having sex, posting on a fucking internet forum... I could go on. America is broke, but so is practically every other fucking first world country. The truth is, national debt is a political tool, that really only matter if you lose a war when you have no choice but to be some other countries bitch.
