I thought I'd like to share my review style since there's a lot of mystification around the subject. Seems like a lot of people don't really know "how to do it" with any song not in their "realm".

I think is a good thing to try to teach people how to write a review.
This way you will not end up with crappy reviews like:
"I loved this song" and giving you 4* o_O
Reviews are a good way to get feedback and improve but some people use those just to advertise their own stuff, like:
"Very nice song, i like it
Please review also my latest song xxxxx" 10* (to make sure that you'll give a good mark in exchange).

I agree that talking about reviews is not like talking about music production, but for most people reviews are an important tool to improvement.

I suspose reviewers, or should i say, people are getting more lazier by the day and just to show their oppinion or support they post a 1 word review. (which results in a negative review anyway).

Sorohanro's point wasn't that you shouldn't get a review back from an artist you review, but what he meant was that some people write a one word review BECAUSE they want reviews on their own song.
I think that when you write a review it should be to help the artist and not to help yourself.

Yeah, it may not make much sense, I could've actually just posted it IN the thread, but I think they were both legitimate options, since it is important information.

If they ask for technical reviews, let the floodgates open.

However, even though th emotional context of a song does not involve minute technical details, it does involve the actual direction of the song, and what decision the artist makes in the technical details.

The thing about receiving votes is if you get a bad one...

EXAMPLES

Heading: "this was was the shit!! (10/10 stars)

Body: "this song bumped go man"

Or the reverse...

Heading: "wtf was that" (0/10 stars)

Body: "i didnt understaind dat wut was it?"

...then it's normally good practice not to take that to heart. A bad review can still be positive with regards to how it praises your music, but when it's so incoherent that the reviewer couldn't possibly have his age in the double digits yet, it's obviously non-constructive, and you'd be better off skipping over it. Or just deleting it entirely.

Now giving reviews, that's easy. Take your time and articulate your meaning so that you're not just saying what you mean, you're saying it in a way that the artist you're reviewing will understand and appreciate it.

What I say is:
A review that is saying just " very nice" 10/10 is not helpful, not t all. When I give a review I give it hoping that I can say something helpful, giving some technical advices or leave my overall impressions so the author can see what his music is inspiring.
Giving a one word review just hoping that you'll get a review back it's a quite lame thing to do.

Being an outcast isn't quite as bad as not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're".

I have a very sandard method of reviewing:

I listen to the song - and review as I go - I comment on things I like - how it made me feel - the imagery that came to mind - and hten when its done I sum it up - and say anything that I didn't dislike - and what could be improved.

Alternately I will listen to the song - then say what I liked, then didnt like, and how it can be improved. Although I usually say what I didnt like first, and then what I liked after - psychologically it makes the person feel better to end on a high note.

and that's about it!

How bout, we write him a response like, "ur mum" or something, that should keep him busy for awhile.
