Biblical contradictions 2009-04-27 17:26:23 Reply

Any of you Christians here on Newgrounds, like the ones who always flame threads about Atheism, ever noticed any contradictions in the bible? I sure have.

"For I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger forever." (Jeremiah 3:12)
"Ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn forever." (Jeremiah 17:4)

And Jesus said, "For judgement I am come into this world." (John 9:39)
"I came not to judge the world" (John 12:47)

"Jacob said, 'I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.'" (Genesis 32:30)
"No man hath seen God at any time." (John 1:18)

We should fear God (Matthew 10:28)
We should love God (Matthew 22:37)
There is no fear in love (1 John 4:18)

With so many errors (and trust me, there are many more) can you really take this book seriously? Post more contradiction, your thoughts, flame me, etc.

You should really do research on the Bible before criticizing it. You copy pasted this from somewhere, obviously. There are many justifications for such contradictions, but honestly if you aren't going to take the effort to find the reasons, I don't care.

Also, I'm athiest.

IT's still a contradiction.
It's like if I tell you the story of the three little pigs and at one point in the story, I keep saying there's 4 pigs and then at other times, I say there's 3.
??

Get your story straight, bible. Haha.

p.s. here's a couple hundred of contractions:

Not Christian... quotes taken out of context... not contradictions.

IE: The first quote refers to God speaking to Isreal telling them that he can and will forgive them if they bring god into their hearts... or soemthing like that.

The second quote is where God is telling the people that he can't forgive those that don't accept or believe in him... that statement goes on to talk about faithless humans being like shrubs in a dessert... no good can come of it.

Taken out of context it sounds as if God doesnt' know what he previously said. Put in context, they both say the same thing... believe and I will forgive you, remain faithless and I have no mercy.

Seriously, read the whole chapter, not just one line...

Read the books by Bart Ehrman. It basically points out ALL inconsistencies and contradictions with the Bible.

You know when you repeat a story a couple of times, it tends to change after a while.

The bible is still a pile of crap anyway.

"For I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger forever." (Jeremiah 3:12)
"Ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn forever." (Jeremiah 17:4)

We Catholics believe that if you are sorry for your sins, you shall be forgiven. The first is an example of one being truly for his sins, the second is a situation in which he isn't.

And Jesus said, "For judgement I am come into this world." (John 9:39)
"I came not to judge the world" (John 12:47)

This is saying that Jesus came into this world to judge, and John came into the world not to judge.

"Jacob said, 'I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.'" (Genesis 32:30)
"No man hath seen God at any time." (John 1:18)

This is more of a metaphor. When Jacob said that he has seen God face to face, he meant that the Lord's Revelation has shed light upon him, not that he literally saw God.

We should fear God (Matthew 10:28)
We should love God (Matthew 22:37)
There is no fear in love (1 John 4:18)

Matthew doesn't mean fear as in afraid of God, but the knowledge of His power.

An internet troll.

But no, they wrote a bunch of metaphors, and it's the people who decide how to interpret those metaphors that fucked it all up. To manipulate feeble human minds.

I like religion, because most teach you about how to lead a good life. I don't like religion because it tells you to do this or die.

Im a Hindu and im pretty sure that and Buddhism are the only ones that tell you that if you dont believe in this you will suffer for eternity. (Correct me if im wrong)

The Bible and Quran teach you good things, but it also makes you a mindless freak.

Maybe I should rather go join the more humble agnostics.

Agnostics are just the pussified version of atheists.

Here is what I say:

There is no reason to ever believe in a thing you cannot sense, feel or percieve in any way, as it could simply not exist.

Since god cannot be percieved in any way nobody could have percieved him and therefore you have to come to the conclusion that he was invented by man. And that he in fact does not exist.

What stops them from doing it again? They could keep doing it and then just go to confession. Just like that act of contrition thing. Just sin all your life and keep a priest by you on your deathbed.

I don't know the mechanics of Christianity tho, so if im wrong then soz.
