Coming from a somewhat God-Believing perspective, it seems a little awkward that Christians always say that God gave humans free will because he didn't want to control our lives.

The thing is, Christians also say that God knows everything that happens, past, present, and future. That's the thing. He knows our future.

How can we have free will AND do whatever we want during our lives? It doesn't add up. If we really did have free will, God wouldn't know what wouldn't be able to know what would happen every millisecond of our lives.

An easier way of saying it is that somehow, we can do whatever we want, but it's already layed out for us, and we can't stray from it. God knows exactly what will happen tomorrow, but somehow, I can choose what happens.

Can anyone with a stronger belief of God clear this up? Otherwise, discuss.

Mindfuck post.

No, they can't. It'll be a long time before they get their act together.

Where, in The Bible does it say you have freewill? Where, in The Holy Bible, does it call God omnipotent? If you've read it, Yahweh/God/Allah/Jehovah/The Demiurge/whatever you want to call it, isn't omnipotent, but closer to being a deity. Well, in the sense you talk off.

If we are talking Gnostic Christianity, then God didn't create the world, the Demiurge did and God is certainly almighty, but he didn't make the world, otherwise, please bin your notion of "God" as omnipotent.

"Free will" is how people make it through the day, how they can still believe in a God while witnessing all of the bad things that happen on this Earth. It's how the far-fetched becomes near-fetched.

I honestly find these "holier-than-thou" Christians stupid. They say God is kind, yet he gives people a choice, abbide his rules and live happily through eternity... or be different and suffer for all eternity. It's more like God in their eyes wants to put people through pain for his enjoyment instead. Does this make God a sinner too or is he allowed to because he layed down the rules and the groundwork? I will never understand these types of people.

Not really. Religious questions are just retarded due to the amount of atheists and non-Christians about.

God can know the future and allow free will at the same time. We as humans are free to do whatever we want, but god will know what that will be.

If god controls our lives, why is there evil in the world? The fact alone that humans can do evil reinforces my belief that god doesn't control our lives. He sees the bad that will be done, but does not intervene.

Nowhere did I say that he only let people see things he wanted them to see, I only said he knows what's going to happen.

God doesn't see into the future. He just knows you so well he can already tell what you'll do.

Hmmm... I'm torn between taking this seriously and taking it as a joke. He's been with you your whole life, so he knows everything about you. Honestly, that gave me a lot to think about.

The thing is, we don't know what God knows. God knows, but we don't and we're not supposed to. We do have free will, we'll just never know exactly what we're going to do.

Meh, plenty of religions show "God" or deities acting with malice.

Hmm.

Basically, you can make your own choices however you want, but God already knows what you'll do. You're in control, God just knows what YOU are going to decide to do.

Biblical prophecies also contradict the free will concept.

The more religious they are the less free they are because their beliefs control their lives, the more they ignore IE less religious, the more free they are.

A smidge over 10%, but that is a very good reply rate for NG BBS. At least, it was in my day.

It's difficult to explain. Even though we have free will, God knows how we'll use it. It sounds like a paradox, I know. But think about it.

What? So you're saying we don't actually have free will, but the illusion of free will.
