No, it's not.

But...it's bulletproof. Most indestructible mic in the world for sure.

No, it's not.

That really depends on your definition of 'best'

If I need a mic that I can abuse every day and be assured it's going to continue working every night, then maybe the sm58 is the best mic in the world for my given application. It would certainly outrank that $2000 ribbon mic sitting in the studio, by that metric.

That mic is only the best in the indestructable category... in the quality category it is nowhere near the best. Right now I use the AT2020 USB microphone for podcasting because it is affordable, but I am about to go buy a proffesional mic that will get rid of popping noises and such.

A studio grade microphone won't eliminate popping at all. Purchasing a pop filter can help, but it's largely a matter of the positioning and technique one uses when they speak into their mic.

Well not popping I mean white noise. Popping comes from the natural noises your mouth makes so a home made pop filter would work as well. I just need a better quality microphone that would make my voices sound more deep and real as if I was really next to the person talking to them.

Any mic is going to produce at least some degree of static hiss. Of course, certain mics far more than others, but even room temperature can affect a static level. Mics will also pick up nearby ambient noise, such as a computer's internal fan.

It's the simple matter of knowing how to remove this unwanted noise and static. Most audio editing software includes a "Noise Removal" tool, which, when applied properly, can really work wonders.

Temperture can affect the mics static? Is this because of the metal expanding and contracting? Thats good to know. Well anyway, I simply just want a better microphone because I want to find out what differences each mic has just for experience. I can probably just listen to different voices recorded with separate microphones online to be able to determine which mic I should use.

I remember when I used my computers internal mic, it picked up every single noise that my computer made lol.

That's a pretty good basic tutorial. Thanks. And thanks for the link to the switch site, especially.
