No. I REALLY hate it when anybody refers to my music as "That Metallica shit" or "Slipknot and shit".
Mostly when I mention my distaste for rap and hiphop, they always seem to respond with, "Well it's better than your music. That Metallica shit." Or something to that extent.
Example conversation:
"Ugh I hate this music."
"Well it's better than your music."
"You don't even know what kind of music I listen to."
"Yeah I do. Slipknot and shit."
Because apparently, since I'm a metalhead, I must ONLY listen to Slipknot. Slipknot is obviously the only metal band out there. There's no such thing as Demon Hunter, Opeth, or Agalloch, Swallow the Sun.
The same conversation can be used if you substitute 'Slipknot' with 'Metallica'.
Because if I like soft metal/hard rock (Whatever you want to call it) I must ONLY listen to Metallica. There's no such thing as Skidrow, Guns N' Roses, Megadeth, or Anthrax.
Saying you don't like rock or metal is fine, but if you're going to say anything else or if you're going to outright criticize somebody's music of choice, I really think that you should at least be semi-knowledgeable in it.
srsly
