I used to hate earbuds, but now I can't stand standard headphones like the ones in your link. Doesn't it feel heavy on your head after awhile? Sound quality wise I've been through four earbuds this year ranging from $5.00 ones to $50 ones, and I didn't notice and difference besides comfort.
Earbuds are okay but I really don't like using them much. If you can't notice a difference in quality, either the songs you have are low quality or you need a new sound card or something. I have a pair of $5 earbuds that sound now where near as good as the standard iPod headphones. The best earbuds I've used were the Bose ones. They have headphone quality.

Spending anything over $20 on a pair of headphones/earbuds is a complete waste of money, in my opinion.
Unless you're an audiophile or have a career or hobby involving music, they really aren't necessary. An average person may not need them, but a DJ or producer would. Some people just notice the hindrances in quality more than others and want to experience that high quality sound that the producer would hear when they master the track.
