I like Metallica and Mozart. I have on my ipod Beethoven's Pastoral symphony and Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc" following right after. It's all right to like a variety of music. It means you actually think about what you are listening to.

Why do people keep bringing up Metallica in this thread? Is it because it's also ancient and obsolete?

No, it's completely wrong to have your own taste in music. As wrong as homosexuality, and women's rights.

No. Mozart is the god of music. Seriously. Whoever hates him deserves to be smitten.

No, it's ok to like Mozart because the man was making symphonies as a child and I admire him for that.

Mozart was fine, I liked his works when I was younger and when I knew less about the classical world What I highly suggest is to broaden your horizon and find other composers because there are hundreds out there (who in my opinion are so much more worth listening to).
Some I suggest are

Frederic Chopin (obviously, he's my god)
Sergei Rachmaninoff (ranges from chopinesque romance to modern complex pieces)
Sergei Prokofiev (if you're interested in sarcasm in music)
Felix Mendelssohn or Johannes Brahms (if you like Beethoven)
Dmitri Shostakovich (powerful large-scale revolutionary stuff)
Claude Debussy/Maurice Ravel (if you enjoy romantic impressionism)

You know what, if you wish, feel free to IM me and I can provide you with plenty of songs. I have a ridiculously large library of music I can share with you.
Screen name is in my profile

Well people used to like him, young hooligans think it's nerdy because it doesn't involve some guy talking about his big ass bitch.

I was listening to Mozart while coming across this thread... irony at its best.

So, no, Mozart is perfectly fine although I do take a lot of ridicule for it especially because I'm 18.

Yeah, I didn't say that people who are from a poorer background can't enjoy it. They do. I was just thinking about how the whole thing may of kicked off as a common "social norm/rule".

I've made my mind up, there's going to be trouble.

Of course not! Without classical music, today's music would be much suckier. The classical composers like Bach, Brahm, Beethoven, and Motzart have timeless sonatas, concertos, and orchestral arrangements that are timeless, influential, and pure genius. Classical music is the ultimate form of music. Plus, if you listen to classical, it will make you smarter. Fact.

out of all classical music, i find it sounds more light, and more like something snobby aristocrats would listen to. not all classical music is light and breezy and cheerful. listen to tchaikovsky or wagner.

Actually, nobody gives me a hard time because no-one really knows. Mozart made some of the greatest artistic pieces in the world and what pop culture is doing to the world, changing humanity's moods might instill fear into the likes of younger people who enjoy sohpisticated works from a genious like mozart sometimes.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking Mozart. Requiem ftw.

There was also a movie made about mozart, and another componist of his time being quite a tad older than him and completely jealous because the much younger child Mozart was composing music far beyond the sight of the older componist. I've seen this movie a long time ago, several years, and I forgot the title.

I'd love to see it again, it was inspiring, some of Mozart's greater works came in there, and most facts about his life story (including his death). If anyone has a clue for me on this movie's name or other details whatsoever, I'm always here on this topic and my inbox is waiting for your firy-fingered replies.

No, there's nothing wrong with it. The great thing about classical music is that it can relax and soothe, because (short of Jack Johnson), there's not many artists that made soft, easy listening music.

It's ironic how Beethoven was deaf when he wrote "Ode to Joy", he never had the chance to listen to it but he know how it goes.

No? I can't say I could sit there all day listening only to classical music. I do like composers like Philip Glass etc... but some classical music starts to get annoying.

The way I see it, it's not wrong to like Mozart, nor Classical.
I used to think that only old people listened to classical music, but since I came on NG, I have seen that that's not the case.
Mozart had a wonderful mind filled with music. Many people today have a similar mind, but it's usually shunned, or it's not used to its full potential. That saddens me.
But go on liking Mozart, he's brilliant.
