So, i was reading my buddy Gravey1's newpost...
"Ok, I had to post this here in my news post. But I didn't want to make an entirely new one, because I do that to much as it is.
But today I saw a comment left on my friend gOrc's song Into The Cold. The link is above, if you are interested. But anyways, during the review someone left a guy said this...AND I QUOTE!!!
"this is amazing man i mean even guitar hero couldn't produce this"
Has it really come to this? Like seriously, are all songs, especially guitar based, being deemed as "Guitar Hero worthy?" Is that the new criteria for what makes something good or not? Whether it is like some shit you played on Guitar Hero?
Because if so, I'm done. I'm done forever with music in every fashion. Not just as a composer, but as a player/performer, and as a listener. Because the simple notion that a video game based off of a bunch of half-decent rock and metal hits is the new industry standard bothers me.
What really gets me is the fact that now people are running around pretending they know everything about rock and metal. Dragonforce is now a household name for scene fags and little thirteen year olds. I won't take anything away from Dragonforce, they are talented. And I like a few of their songs. But why is it people laughed at me 4 years ago when I said I liked this band, and now they are the "new industry standard" for metal.
Oh and I swear if I hear one more time that Dragonforce is better than Dimmu-Borgir or Mercenary, because they are on Guitar Hero, I'm gonna start raping emo kids left and right. And I don't mean the good kind of rape. I mean the kind of rape where even Michael Jackson is asking himself ,"Wtf is going on here?!" *Did I just accidentally, and indirectly suggest that there is a GOOD form of rape in this paragraph?!* Lawl!
And since when has it been "fashionable" to where band t-shirts. I'm so sick of seeing kiddies running around in The Ramones t-shirts, and when you ask them about the band they can't even name one song by the band.
I miss the days when metal and rock were not fashionable. I miss the days when we judged music based on how we actually felt about it, not whether it was in the latest Guitar Hero game or not. To be honest, I miss being able to take people seriously when discussing music with them, especially rock and metal."
He's completly right of course. Musical standard today has changed much from the past. It's all about the games that people play, and the influences of their peers and whatnot. As i've seen before, "Rockband doesnt make you a rocker, asshole." But, that's what is happening now. I myself think i have a great taste in music, and i havent picked up the rock band TOYS in over a year. I am, quite frankly, sick of people saying that just bevause they play Guitar Hero or Rock Band or whatever, they like rock or metal.
Well, to that, i say, i'll shove something where it shouldnt be. To anyone.
Discuss?

meh don't let some dumb kid tell you your songs are good enough for gh. Most of the songs on there are classic hits. Maybe he's just saying that your song could be featured in a rhythm game and people would enjoy it. Just sayin

Let them have their fun. It's not really something extremely serious, it's just a fad now. And I'm positive you can't make a solid living off of playing rock band and guitar hero. Just video games, I don't let them bother me, really. Kids brag about how good they are and how much they know about video games all the time. This one just happens to focus around licensed songs.

Guitar Hero doesn't produce music, so you know he's a moron.
What really gets me is the fact that now people are running around pretending they know everything about rock and metal. Dragonforce is now a household name for scene fags and little thirteen year olds.
Now that's taking it a little bit too far with great inaccuracy.
Oh and I swear if I hear one more time that Dragonforce is better than Dimmu-Borgir or Mercenary
But they are. I mean, they would be if every song of theirs up until their last CD wasn't the same song just changed a little.
And since when has it been "fashionable" to where band t-shirts. I'm so sick of seeing kiddies running around in The Ramones t-shirts, and when you ask them about the band they can't even name one song by the band.
It has been for quite some time. Maybe you don't get out much. It's really common for that to happen. I know plenty of people who wear band shirts but don't know who they actually are. I most commonly see it in Nirvana shirts. I usually get shirts for bands I like, but you know sometimes there are others that look really cool and I want but I don't listen to the band so I resist. Some people don't care like others do.
I miss the days when metal and rock were not fashionable. I miss the days when we judged music based on how we actually felt about it, not whether it was in the latest Guitar Hero game or not. To be honest, I miss being able to take people seriously when discussing music with them, especially rock and metal."
Chances are you weren't born before rock or even metal became fashionable. They've been big for a long time now. The only thing Guitar Hero really does is make people aware of more bands, it doesn't really set a standard. The standard was already there. Just now it's more known.
He's completly right of course. Musical standard today has changed much from the past. It's all about the games that people play, and the influences of their peers and whatnot. As i've seen before, "Rockband doesnt make you a rocker, asshole." But, that's what is happening now. I am, quite frankly, sick of people saying that just bevause they play Guitar Hero or Rock Band or whatever, they like rock or metal.
I play Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and I like rock and metal. All these games do is allow people to experience the music in a new way.
It's all about the games that people play, and the influences of their peers and whatnot.
I want to emphasize a point here. You can blame people for liking music because their friends like it. Chances are they already liked the music and happen to share an interest.
I could go on and on about how you shouldn't care about what people like because they heard it in a game. That's like getting mad at someone for liking a song because Disney promotes it. It's opinion.

Yea dude honestly? Why the hell do people take stupid things like this SOOO seriously.
This is basically one of those stupid "I was first" things. He obviously wants people to know that he was the first to like DragonForce.
If thats not the case then fine. But still you can' take stupid trends that die in 2 years to heart.
If you are going to stop making music over this, then you are crazy.

I agree, if you're going to let some ignorant child completely rob you of a pleasure such as playing an instrument or enjoying music then you are just as bad as they. Newton's law works here too, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. There are conformists kids who lap up this mainstream garbage, and then there are people who are so anti conformist that they conform to the idea of being against the tide.
Let it go, I would kill to have guitar hero have like Conducting Hero or something where it's classic hits from film/game soundtracks or something equally awesome. I'd have absolutely no problem seeing more Howard Shore or John Williams t-shirts left and right :/

No, it's not /thread. Kaizer is a cool enough cat to understand and discuss. I feel the same way sometimes, but you just gotta look past it. Rock and especially metal will always have a true "underground" following, and bitching about it can't change the fact. If it's good, it's good... whether it's featured in a game like GH or not. ;)

Us elitists don't hate video games just because of rhythm game you play with a fake guitar.
Elitists refer to musicians and generally anyone who actually pays attention to nerd gamer epenis erections.
I actually enjoy guitar hero, moved up to medium myself, even if most of the songs suck.
The only thing worse then the few who take guitar hero seriously are those who take the people who take guitar hero seriously, seriously.
Let's stop getting our panties in a bunch.

We are going to have to actually get used to those bone headed people that think that "Guitar hero" makes you a real artist in one way or another. Hell the fella could of even been joking. Hard to tell through text sometimes. Though, in reality there are people that think "guitar hero" or "Rock band" makes them a true blue artist. That is indeed to bad. Just do what i do. Look the other way. Pay no heed to them because in the long run what are they doing? lol.

Yes, we are getting older. So is normal to hate what is new. Ofcourse the past was better. I mean i love the songs of the 90's they sound realy nice. But you cant say its better then the songs we have now? Or do we?
But that is a other topic.
To the OP dont let people take away the one thing you love, music! Even if it means you have to listen to a diffrint gerne.

All I wonder is why you give a shit about public opinion. You determine what you like to listen to. You determine what bands are better (for your own).
Reall, I wouldn't give a shit about what people think because it's in a game.
Just like the music you like. People are stupid.

The songs don't get worse, just what appears in mainstream does. People are still making great songs. Only now you have to look much harder to find it.

Not really dude, music is still kickass. Just because kids might be into the band you like doesn't make the band bad. And if the band is already bad, they'll give into marketing and money, and have their own guitar hero game, so all the bad bands like Aerosmith and Metallica can stop moaning everywhere.
Don't let a video game or kids ruin music for you. Gotta have that willpower brah, and if you don't have willpower, you're basically a chick.

I disagree. Guitar Hero and Rock Band allow people to experience more music. I just hate how people think they know everything about a band when they have only heard one song... from Guitar Hero or Rock Band.
I don't see retards like that around anymore, so I just pass it off. I'm glad I don't have to be subject to them... Wait nevermind, my sister's roomate is like that. He fucking painted his rock band guitar with $200 worth of car paint.
And it was Bad-Man-Inc's sig that said "Hey asshole, Rock Band Doesn't make you a musician."
