Forgive the lateness of my reply, but aww..... why is this? Were you renting it or something?

I know, it was going to be so awesome, you and me playing trombone together. Yeah, I was renting it, but fortunately, it looks like we have replacements here. Besides, if we stall this until late August, I'll have it back :D

Great, because it takes time to write music, especially when it's a collaboration. Which reminds me. What kind of music are we playing here? Band? Orchestra? Jazz? A mix of some sort? It would be nice to know because I am perfectly willing to help out on that.

I agree. I really want to know what we are doing. Are we making our own music? Are we remixing a real life song? A song from the Audio Portal? How are we distributing the music? Who's editing all the music together? So many questions.

Another question is: How are we going to balance all of the instruments in the band to sound good and not like a bunch of 5th graders? Harmonicas and guitars and band instruments and all these other instruments. It's going to be quite a feat to pull this off.

Kay, I'll try my best to answer these questions.

At 7/17/09 11:26 AM, WilhelmTheVampire wrote: What kind of music are we playing here?

Most likely Classical or some kind of Symphonic type, we are looking for a YouTube Symphony type thing only more community oriented and less bland sounding.

A mix of some sort?

Maybe, perhaps we can incorporate all these electric guitars and electric basses and drums into an odd rock meets classical type deal. We'll see, we can arrange the genre after the basic piece has been composed, and we can add parts to it from there.

It would be nice to know because I am perfectly willing to help out on that.

Yes, we might need to compose the low brass part. Wing could maybe help with that as well.

At 7/17/09 11:36 AM, WingCommand wrote: Are we making our own music?

Well, the general plan since the beginning was for speeling to compose, but we could get someone on that. As far as I know, he's got some old composer humans to help him with that, but you could ask him yourself.

Are we remixing a real life song?

Honestly, I've not thought of this. It is actually a rather nice idea, hold onto it.

A song from the Audio Portal? How are we distributing the music?

Coincidentally, we're going to SUBMIT the finished product to the Auido Portal, and possibly make a Flash to go with it.

Who's editing all the music together?

I believe speeling, as he is the collab organiser.

I feel like gfoxcook with all the multiquoting.

I do believe speeling has some software he mentioned way earlier in the thread that allows him to mix and balance all the recordings.

Perhaps, but different styles require different approaches. It may be difficult to write a song and have to modify it for another genre. I dunno, we'll see.

I can play electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, or piano. Whatever you want. I would be best at electric and acoustic guitars but i can play the others too.

I hope I'm not late in joining, I would love to be a part of this.

Thanks for bumping this! I totally forgot about it.
I have out some guitar parts and some parts for the piano, but do NOT expect this out anytime soon. I'd say shoot for the end of summer. Around September I should have written out every part and by November, I would probably get in all the sound and finish up all the smaller details. By Christmas, this should be out and ready to go!
Sorry if the timeline is a little bit too long for some people, but it's not going to exactly be the easiest thing to finish up. Wish me luck!

I don't mind waiting a bit.

Have you thought about how we'll organize who plays what? I mean there are a ton of keyboard players, trumpet, and there are lots of other instruments that people have doubles of.

when you talk, i dont care what it means, shouldn't just stare at you, should i?

Coincidentally, I was ready to bump this. You can still definitely be a part of this. Electric guitar openings are closed though, just post a comment here to confirm your position.

Excellent, me and everyone else were curious to know the details of the composition. So, by Christmas, the composition will be done, or do you think we would have finished it entirely? Speaking of which, we need to work out a final date to submit your recording.
But it is good to know we have some solid dates up already.

Sorry if the timeline is a little bit too long for some people, but it's not going to exactly be the easiest thing to finish up. Wish me luck!

Well, obviously. We can't write an orchestra piece in a week, and good things take time.

You must have a pretty good idea about what this is gonna sound like. Do we at least get a preview or even a brief description?

And I take it piano will be our main instrument?

Well, I really don't feel too comfortable uploading the WHOLE thing I wrote, so it can be a surprise. But when I write it out good enough, (later today), I'll upload a demo sheet music copy, then record a demo with something and then upload it here.

Well if I just had a demo of what you have so far, I'd be able to transcribe it. This is where two years of music theory really helps. Also my absolute pitch doesn't hurt either. :D

I can play:

Bass guitar
Guitar
Drums
Recorder
Harmonica
Piano

Listed based on how much skill I have with them accordingly. I'm a great bassist, okay drummer and I can't play jack shit on the piano so that should give you a general idea of what skill I have. I can also read tabs and some sheet music.

Good, good. Take it up with TheSilverGuitar. He's the one who manages the member list.

And sorry about not reading your last post, speeling. I'm definitley looking forward to hearing what you have so far. If you do need help writing parts or anything of that nature, I'm willing to help.
