Technically, minimum wage never goes up in value... It is raised and lowered to match several factors: Cost of living in the county/city, employment rate, crime rate (seriously), and value of the currency. So as you can see, minimum wage could be less in one state than it is in another, and also the value of the dollar back when you were working minimum wage may have been higher than it is today.
