After playing and beating Castle Crashers for the 3rd time in a row I had mixed feelings on the overall performance of the game.

The Good
1st off great job in creating and marketing this product Tom Fulp and Dan Paladin. 2ndly Paladin's music selection and creation were well done and funkly different then arcade games of past. You know a games music is done well when you and your roommate are humming the tunes throughout the day. The idea of knights fighting in an oldschool Super Nintendo style of game play was brilliant and instantly brings back the old school glory days of fighting style related co-op games such as teenage mutant ninja turtles, double dragon, and Streets of Rage. The bosses and weapon options in addition to the character gaining stats were also greatly done and the upgrading and diversity of magic powers was most excellent. The diversity of characters that you start off with in addition to unlocking and the option of increasing the game difficulty after beating the game the 1st time but also compensating the difficulty with higher xp gain was great. The character design was good and the boss's were highly creative, fun to play against... most times, yet provided an adequate challenge. The gaining of weapons, animals and tools was also extremely well done and defenitely increased the unique quality that this game had to offer.

The Cons
- After unlocking more secret characters, especially the villains it becomes apparent that their magic abillities become repetetive as they are usually clone abillities of the main characters.
- The ending of the game was incredibly dissapointing as it merely pissed me off and led me questioning the 12 bucks i invested into this.
- The story could of been much deeper, and with the dissapointing kindergaten like conclusion the maturity of the game is greatly questioned. A deeper story into to the kingdom, the king, the villains, and the knights, would have sealed this game as an all time hit.
- Having to beat the game over and over with different characters is repetetive and quickly gets old after beating the game the 1st time. If every character had a different ending then this would make the reward of going through the repetetive cycle more forgiveable.
- The game is simple and kid like but the gore and such suggest that its made for teens to adults however the ending and the lack of story means that only early teens who are young enough to enjoy the kidness but not old enough to understand mature story line would think this game as great. This sadly makes it less of a serious game to go for, which is sad b/c of the potential it had

Overall performance
6.7 out of 10

Castle Crashers is supposed to be funny so that is pretty much why it doesn't have such a serious storyline.

I just started the second playthrough, as a thief >:) After that I'm gonna play it through on the insane mode with someone

I don't know how you can give a game a 6.7/10 even when its replayability value makes you play it three times...
I actually never played the game, but I'll be checking back on this topic because I might get it myself, if its deemed to be worthy of my money.

well, Castle Crashers has allot of humor in it, so I knew when playing it the ending wouldn't be too serious.

Me and my friend love to play it together ( even though his character is like, over ten levels above me and wins each princess ) and that increases replay value when you have a friend to go along your adventure with.

I don't know if its just me, but I do sometimes like a bit of repetition, when what I am repeating is fun.

I also noticed most of your cons seemed to be based around the games ending.

I guess you were pretty pissed about that.

Castle Crashers isn't the best game ever that's for sure, but it is up there in the great beat em ups of all time for its humor, violence, gameplay

( bear holding a fish ftw )

You kids these days with your serious stories and realism.

Last time I checked games were supposed to be about fun.

if Tom had cramed just one more once of awesomeness into that game
the universe would have collapsed
on itself repeadetly before
turning into mustard and vanishing into thin air
leading to many puzzled expresions and angry faics

Serious story? LOL this game comes from the mind that created newgrounds, WHAT DID YOU EXPECTED?!!!

and if you have been around long enough, you cant stop laughing at NG references (the clown, the boss logo, carrot clock, etc)

JEEZ WE GET IT ALREADY YOU DONT LIKE THE ENDING.

Now that's only one point, not three.

And beating the game multiple times is an OPTION. I rarely ever complete games more than once, yet without a moments hesitation I completed Castle Crashers several times.

This is because it's an excellent game.

Also, I find it trite that you find time to criticise the plot at all when similar games such as Double Dragon had little more plot than the girl being cunt-punched, and then dragged off.

WHAT.

WHAT.

Grow up kiddo.

That would be a fair if Double Dragon wasn't made 15 years ago. I beat the game I think about 3x and wondered if I could of better spend the $20 bucks I paid for it on some older used 360 game. But sure the game was funny but it could also have potential of being one of the greatest hits of all times on X-box arcade. Most people on Newgrounds will love it but I doubt those familiar with the culture of newground will cherish it as much.

I played only the demo, and it was still more fun than playing Halo multiplayer with a friend for a few hours.

It's just that good. If and when I get an xbox, I'm getting a live membership and that game. I'm making all my friends buy it.

My PSN ID is xscoot. Crazy, huh?

Why? Seriously, how much can you find on there that is Newgrounds born and bred? Not nearly as much as Alien Hominid. The characters were created for CC, not for NG, the only real similarities were the scat humour (but that's not NG exclusive), the angry face on the boss health, and a clown THAT DIDN'T EVEN GET HIS COCK OUT!

Looks like someone has not been browsing Newgrounds very often.

If you did, you would understand why there were unicorns, and the Tricky the Clown reference.

It is ok when playing alone, but great with friends. Theres a lot of humor in it and I like the RPG elements (leveling up, lots of weapons and pets). Also the secrets and other characters raises the replay value.

I was playing Double Dragon yesterday.

As for Castle Crashers, the game looks good and I've always been tempted to buy it. I just haven't got around to doing it yet.

Carrot Clock was in it and I tried to hug him but he just disappeared but thats okay I understand he can't get too close to anyone due to a TROUBLED PAST of his.
You shouldn't judge this game if you didn't play it with friends.
I mean it quadruples the fun.
