I figured it's probably obligatory for me to post ED's response to this incident, scathing though it is. They really don't pull any punches. I have to admit that ED does have a point in some of their criticisms, though; the baby has no ability to exist on anything above an autonomic level. To keep what is essentially a collection of cells constituting a benign tumor conscious is both cruel and morally incomprehensible.

What does this mother expect the baby to do, when it has no ability to learn, absent, as it is, of a cerebral cortex? And what delusions does this woman labor under, believing that her child is capable of conscious verbalizations and responsiveness on par with the baby's peers? I think perhaps it might be wise to issue a psychiatric evaluation of the mother's capacity for parenthood.

Maybe because her mother just couldn't let her child go, it's her daughter regardless of the baby basically being a zombie she would always love her and if she can live she wont hesitate to still spend her time with her daughter until the baby dies, feelings or none the mother still has feelings and she loves her daughter too much to let it die. A parent (chances are more for a mom) just can't let their kid go like that.
And also, the baby isn't feeling any pain therefor it isn't suffering or anything like that so why kill it? It's not doing any harm and it isn't feeling any harm to itself, it isn't cruel since it can't suffer. I would understand if it was suffering then the mother would be cruel and basically retarded but in this case it isn't so i see no problem here.

People have made points on how it can't feel anything, so how is it suffering. They are basically looking for reasons to argue about the christian religion. Therefore, they shouldn't post anything about suffering if you are gonna go ahead and contradict yourself.

I've been watching the blog's RSS feed for interesting developments. The mother made a new post on her blog:

"Asking for your prayers today. Faith is suffering from stomach bloating and bleeding ulcers, most likely the combined result of irritation from the feeding tube and prolonged use of one of her medications. We have taken her to the emergency room once, but we have decided not to take extreme measures to treat her (ie. surgery). I am trying to let her stomach rest as much as possible and giving her acid blockers. I am doing my best to keep her comfortable and diligently praying that God will intervene. Faith is wrapped up snuggly in her blanky and has been opening her eyes and blinking --not something that we see very often. I hope you'll keep us in prayer today. Thanks for checking in; I'll update you soon."

Faith died.

It's not sad, because Faith never truly lived in the first place.

She was nothing more than a robotic doll.

From the mom's blog:

"The best 93 days of my life... were spent with my daughter. Faith went to Heaven today. We spent the entire morning and some of the afternoon snuggling together in my warm bed. I told her that I loved her many times. I was holding her in my arms when she passed away. It was around 4:40 in the afternoon. I had just finished changing her diaper and I decided to pick her up and wrap a blanket around her. She made a very sweet smiling face and held it for several seconds... I thought it was very cute. I waited for her to take her next breath, but she didn't. She looked up at me and opened her beautiful eyes, and I told her to go with Jesus. I told her it was ok, that I would meet her in Heaven. I held her close and cried tears on her face. I felt her chest and there was no longer a heartbeat. But she still looked so beautiful. And even now, she is still so amazingly beautiful... as I hold her here she is looking like a porcelain doll. Her tube feed is gone. Her lips are still pink and her facial expression looks so happy and peaceful. God is good.

You really gotta wonder, how much longer can this baby live? Or rather, can you even call this living? The only sign that she is not dead is the occasional sound she makes. The thing could just die at any given moment.

Out of utter curiosity, I wonder what this kid's gonna be like in 10 or 15 years if she lives that long!

Well that post was not as bad as I thought it would be. There is no way to detect a soul (unless your ghost busters).It will determine who you are what you do and is the thing inside you that guides you which ever way you go. It is the reason for luck for chance for a little glimmer of hope that says "hold on". And that is the little thing that in the up in coming years we will need. The gut feeling you have is because of your soul. It is that little factor that makes the world of difference. For not all the science in the world will ever tell us to have hope, to hold on, to keep faith in the world. A lot of you say she wasted her time with that "thing". That she might as well have spent 93 days with a rock. But it is apparent to me that that "hunk of flesh" made her a better person. She can truly now Appreciate life. which is something that we can all afford to get rubbed off upon us. All of you argue like robots. "We spent the night holding Faith and reliving some of the wonderful memories captured of her on video.
