A pattern I have come to notice on this forum is that whenever there is a topic about tobacco products there are always a lot of negative posts, no matter what stance the topic creator had on the product.

Yet whenever a topic is made about smoking weed, you don't see any posts on how horrible it is for you or how you are inhaling "poison". It's a very odd thing and tells you a lot about the personality of the average newground forum user.

Is this because people don't want to sound like they arn't cool by saying weed is bad for you? Or is it because the media has completely brainwashed todays youth into hating tobacco but not as much weed?

Weed is less dangerous, and actually gives a high.

It's because the tobacco companies pump chemicals into cigarettes to make them addictive.

Marijuana is a helluva lot safer than cigarettes, or at least, a lot less addictive/expensive.

Tobacco is consumed in greater amounts in the general public. So it's going to get more bad press from it.

Obviously, weed's just a plant. Cigarettes are full of tar and stuff.

As is my understanding, you mix tobacco in with weed when you smoke it anyway, so to smoke weed you have to risk the effects of normal smoking, as well as the psychological effects of weed.

I get the feeling that some users here just want to sound cool by supporting weed. I myself don't smoke weed or cigs, but have no problem with people who do.

Also, inhaling smoke isn't going to do your lungs any good regardless of what you are smoking.

Both of them are bad for you and it is kind of dumb to argue otherwise. They just damage your body in different ways. One does your brain the other your lungs.

You don't have to put tobacco in with the weed, but it helps to smoke it sometimes. And I'd never smoke a cigarette but have smoked weed many times, i dunno why, it just seems better.

From what I heard a joint contains 25 times more tar than a cigarette.

But,

-Weed has absolutely no physical addiction
-There is at least one benefit to weed: you get a high
-Cigarette smells more, longer and worse
-Cigarette is smoked in public places
-People (adults) think that cigarette is ok because it's legal

But cigarettes are far more notorious for cancers, while weed is somewhat less dangerous, in the sense that it isn't quite as addictive, and that it is less likely to cause cancer.

Both are bad in my opinion. Only reason there are less people bitching when people post about weed because it seems majority of newgrounds users are druggies so they stick together.

Addiction doesn't really matter if you're smoking it every day.

-There is at least one benefit to weed: you get a high

Sounds dangerous compared to stress relief.

-Cigarette smells more, longer and worse

I've yet to see someone die because something smelled bad.

-Cigarette is smoked in public places

What if weed was smoked in public places?

-People (adults) think that cigarette is ok because it's legal

And because it's the cool thing to do.

When I asked for proof, I was going for a chemical analysis of harmful substances. Tobacco itself isn't very harmful or addictive, most of the nicotine is lost due to heat anyways. Just look at how long the Aboriginals lived, they smoked tobacco every day. Then compare them to a pot smoking hippy, they look like trash.

Bacci is worse then weed.

Bacci ( tobacco ) contains allt he chemical shit thats sprayed on it.
Weed DOES have a small amount of tar in it, also its antural oils, the amount varies form type ( from less then bacci to much more).
When smoked through a Vapouriser, Weed emits absolutely no oils or tar, making it completely harmless.
Of course, unless you are one of the few, who are either already insane, weak minded or just like TOO much of a GOOD thing, it will pose no major mental issues.
Of course as most things ( as you said ) people are eager to point out the bad things first, and dramatise them. Fear plays a big key in controlling people.

Yes, because tobacco contains these chemicals:

acetone, which is used in nail polish remover
ammonia, which, in liquid concentrated form, can make you pass out with a wiff
arsenic, which is a type of poison
hydrogen cyanide, which is found in rat poison

That's all I can list. Weed does have health affects, but they're much much more subtle.

it is because so many people die every year from tobacco and no one has ever died from weed, or even gotten cancer from it. yes inhaling marijuana smoke is bad for you and it has many of the same chemicals as tobacco but people who smoke cigs smoke say, a pack a day. thats twenty cigarettes. and it takes years and years for these chemicals to build up enough to cause cancer. NO ONE smokes twenty joints a day, every day, for long enough to get cancer from it. also marijuana is not phyically addicting, like nicotine. this makes marijuana significantly safer for you than cigarettes

nothing is worse than weed. weed makes you a temperamental lunatic with only your own selfish concerns on your mind. while on the drug your motivation will dissipate and you have sex for money. it turns beautiful young ladies into whores. it turns bright young men into whores. it turns infant children into smaller adorable whores. and it turns whores into lazy whores. it is awful. if anything is legalized it should be adorable children whores.

Well, to list some things in tobacco, there is the following:

Nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, rat poison, acetone, cadmium, arsenic, DDT, methane, formalin, and over 4000 others, but those were just off the top of my head. Obviously it causes cancers in mouth, gums, and lungs, which causes chewing and breathing problems.

And, to list some thing in weed, there is the following:

THC, sometimes nicotine when smoked with blunts, and about 400 small doses of things, but can also lead to things like spontaneous heart attacks, lung and breathing problems, and damages to physical and mental health.

I don't know as much about weed as I do tobacco, so sue me.

its amazing how ignorant so many people can be. everybody thinks that they're albert fucking einstein because they know how to use google and wikipedia and because they have never tried weed they regurgitate back DARE bullshit, lies about marijuana spread by the government, and everything that they found by googling "health effects of marijuana". marijuana, when used recreationally, IS NOT a harmful drug. If you were to compare a cigarette smoker (who doesnt smoke weed) vs a pot head (who doesn't smoke cigarettes) and see which one of them was at greater risk for cancer, or any number of illnesses, the cigarette smoker would win every time. And for people who think that there is something the matter with just being stoned (say you were to eat a brownie, no negative health consequences there), get a fucking life. If you got high once and it made you all paranoid and you didnt like it, dont smoke anymore, but dont push your opinions down the throats of other people who just wanna get baked and have a lil fun.

oh and also. marijuana is:
an analgesic (relieves pain)
an anti-emetic (relieves nausea and vomiting)
an appetite stimulant (induces hunger)
A very large and growing community of people with medical complaints such as severe chronic pain use Cannabis for medicinal purposes without the after-affects and damage associated with many of today's commonly-prescribed medications. Typically, medical Cannabis use is practised by AIDS and MS patients, but it is certainly not limited to just these conditions. THC is also one of the safest active substances known to man, and has a wide variety of therapeutic applications including, but certainly not limited to:

Reduction of muscle spasms.
Relief from chronic pain.
Relief from nausea and increase of appetite.
Marijuana is frequently beneficial in the treatment of the following conditions:
AIDS. Marijuana can reduce the nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite caused by the ailment itself and by various AIDS medications.
Glaucoma. Marijuana can reduce interlobular pressure, thereby alleviating the pain, and slowing -- and sometimes stopping -- the progress of the condition. Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. It damages vision by increasing eye pressure over time.
Cancer. Marijuana can stimulate the appetite and alleviate nausea and vomiting, which are common side effects of chemotherapy treatment.
Multiple Sclerosis. Marijuana can limit the muscle pain and spasticity caused by the disease, as well as relieving tremor and unsteadiness of gait. Multiple sclerosis is the leading cause of neurological disability among young and middle-aged adults in the United States.
Epilepsy. Marijuana can prevent epileptic seizures in some patients.
Chronic Pain. Marijuana can alleviate the chronic, often debilitating pain caused by myriad disorders and injuries.
Many patients also report that Marijuana is useful for treating arthritis, migraine, menstrual cramps, alcohol and opiate addiction, depression and other debilitating mood disorders.
Nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially lethal effects. Marijuana is not such a substance. There is not a single record in the extensive medical literature describing a proven, documented, cannabis-induced fatality. Simply stated, researchers have been unable to give animals enough Marijuana to induce death. In practical terms, Marijuana cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity. In strict medical terms, Marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume. Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically-active substances known to man. You are right, but not as much as that. Marijuana does contain a good bit more tar than cigarettes do, however, the majority of people do not chain smoke their weed. So, overall it is less harmful depending on how often one smokes. Furthermore, the bud of the marijuana plant, which is more commonly smoked, contains 33% less tar than the leaves do.

But,

-Weed has absolutely no physical addiction
-There is at least one benefit to weed: you get a high
-Cigarette smells more, longer and worse
-Cigarette is smoked in public places
-People (adults) think that cigarette is ok because it's legal

Furthermore, Marijuana contains THC... For those of you that do not know, THC is a bronchial dilator/expectorant; a cough suppressant. Think of it as taking a cough drop or some cough syrup. So, actually, weed clears your throat of dust, smoke, dirt, e.t.c. Thus not contracting your airwaves as do cigarettes. Another little fact is that THC has the exact opposite of that of Nicotine. Nicotine boosts your heart rate and blood speed. This can lead to clogged arteries, heart attack, e.t.c. THC slows your body down. Ultimately putting your body into a relaxed state.
