Is prestige worth it?

I'm talking about both Call of Duty 4 and World at War. I mean, so many people do it, but the idea of it just doesn't appeal to me. So, why do so many people do it, and what are some advantages to it?

On COD4 it gets you a cool symbol and keeps the game from getting boring.

On WaW prestige is not worth it because....
1) it takes forever to reach lvl 65.
2)the prestige icons look very dull and boring
3)there are no camo or gold weapons.

It's to make the multiplayer more interesting, in most online multiplayer games that have a level system, it's usually just get the top and stay at the top, with prestige it spices it all up and makes you have to go all the to the top after already being there.

The main addictiveness of the multiplayer is leveling up to get new weapons an upgrades, but if you're at the top with everything then a huge portion of the fun gets cut off, prestige stops this.

I just wish the CoD4 system was like WaW, where you unlock additional custom slots for going prestige. There's no benefit in CoD4 except having new icons. I still do it, however, because... Why not? It just continually gives you something to do and look forward to.

Really? You're not really looking forward to anything good, in that regard, just something not as shitty as what you currently have.... I wear my level 55 no prestige icon with pride, looking at the people who have sunk the time to get to 10th prestige.

Prestige is pointless. Losing all your stuff for a new medal, then going back up 55/65 levels and repeat? why? it's stupid.

and in WaW's case, 5 custom classes is enough, we don't need extras as some shitty reward for doing a retarded thing

Not worth it. I did the prestige mode twice, thinking it would force me to use weapons I wouldn't normally have used with all the guns and make it more fun...then I realized I should keep all my camo, perks, and custom slots for my guns and just switch them when I felt like it. (Never gonna go through getting the golden shotty ever again)

To anyone who says CoD4 prestige > WaW prestige, you're wrong. The CoD4 one only give you a symbol. The WaW one gives you more custom classes.

It's not worth it, though. I'd rather keep all of the crap I spent weeks unlocking.

I've been playing CoD 4 prestiged once, stayed at 55 for a while, now I've prestiged again, I might prestige once more for the cool level 3 emblem.
