Oh wait, there are no games for a Mac.

Without getting me started on Macs, let's just say that they're suited for a different market than PC.
That doesn't change the fact that buying a Mac with the INTENTION of gaming is pure idiocy.

Discussion: How do you justify maintaining and upgrading your computer?

For me, it's the stunning visuals. When people tell me to get an Xbox, I ask them if their console can play fallout 3 at 1600p with 16x AA.

:D

Apart from the dream of getting Crysis to run with everything at Very High at 60fps with Vsync on, parts will become slower as time goes by, and within 5-6 years, there is no point in keeping it.

Just bought Battlefield 2. Even though I suck at it, I'll see you out on the field.

I'm waiting for my K Rudd stimulus package to come in... when that happens, I'll probably go on a spending spree for games, and get a heap I've always wanted to play, like Bioshock and Left 4 Dead... probably CoD4 as well.

Any other recommendations? As you can probably guess, I'm a real FPS fiend, though I don't mind the occasional RTS or TBS if it tickles my fancy.

Speaking of Turn-Based Strategies, have any of you guys played/own Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri?

My gaming PC has for all intents and purposes been prison raped. RMA process takes 2-3 weeks.

Temporary Specs:

AMD 3600+ 1.9 Ghz dual core.
1Gb DDR2 533mhz
Nvidia 6150 64mb

I need games that will run on this. It's a fresh installation of windows, so it runs as fast as it ever will, but this computer has trouble playing Audiosurf at 640x480 all low.

Yeah, Good sized monitors these days are bloody awesome. And fairly low priced too. The problem is with some games they stretch to fit, and the way it turns out looking makes you wonder what the point was in buying this piece of paradise :)

Some games don't even have native support for widescreen.

So I get to see a fat midget Max Payne shoot up other fat midgets.

Still not worth shelling out all that dough for a definitely expensive, and occasionally complicated mess.

Visuals don't really make a game. I'm fine with popping in Street Fighter IV in my Xbox 360 disc tray, then instantly enjoying the game in 1920×1080 resolution smoothly on my 50" HD T.V. Top that with the majority of average gamers owning Xbox 360's with Xbox Live, great connectivity and social features, and good exclusives. The console package and the games worth around $500, a simple but fun gaming experience compared to shelling out about $2,000 for a really beast computer, or $1,000 for a decently powerful PC.

Don't get me wrong, PC Gaming is awesome. Better visuals and quality overall. But it's just my argument for why I think consoles are a better value for gaming.

Is there really a point to coming into a thread devoted to PC gaming to start picking fights and promote console gaming?

Hahaha, Its great isn't it. I don't see why they don't make all games compatible for wide screen. I mean its not exactly a daunting task on there part. It annoys me quite a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy console gaming and think it offers superior value for money too (at least to start with, games are generally cheaper on PC), but a 50" HDTV is around £1000, for £1500 I can get a VERY good PC indeed.

Your comment about a good PC being 1k, a beast being 2k isn't true, a year or two ago I got my PC new for £850 and it could run Crysis on very high, which I take as a benchmark, and even then I could've kept under 1k and upgraded it even more.

If you look at the graph below, it shows what I'm getting at. At the bottom of the scale, throwing £50 more or so into the pot will get you a significantly better PC. But at the top of the scale, throwing £2000 in will not get you much better than £1000, certainly not readily justifiable in terms of value for money.

So with all due respect, you're wrong.

I really don't know why the console gamers are going into this thread.

Also, I say whoever has a Steam account should do Left 4 Dead versus sometime soon, or Team Fortress 2.

That is a bit odd... since wouldn't it be something to do with how your web browser renders the page, as opposed to the monitor?

Anyway, today I got two new games - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Battlefield 2142. Both are moderately old now, but I picked them both up for $50, which is brilliant considering you could be paying around $80-$100 for a brand new game.

I haven't had a chance to play BF2142 yet, but TES4: Oblivion has done nothing but impress me so far, even though I've only got past the tutorial level so far.

It's just to do with the webpage being very wide. It's hard to explain, but it's a hovering tooltip that gets moved around funny :\

But it's fine if I view the webpage on only half the screen or whatever.

I hate when people anti-hype Crysis saying it has bad gameplay.

Objective: You are a semi-god killing Koreans until robot aliens come and freeze shit up. Then you blow up the aliens too.

A lot of the missions allow you play the game how you want; Rambo or Bond.

The visuals are just a plus, Crysis is a very fun game.

I don't doubt that a lot of people fall into this category, since it (used to, at any rate) cost quite a lot to have a PC that would run it.

According to CanURunIt.com, my laptop can handle it, but I think that the fact that I'm running Vista cancels a lot of my specs out, since it gets jittery even with Oblivion. The number of times I've had to Ctrl + Alt + Delete out of it, since somehow my mouse thought it would be fun to click on something (like moving the recycle bin around) and thus freeze up the game... >:(

So, since Windows 7 Build 7100 has come out, has anyone tried gaming on this OS?

So far, I've only tried Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, and Fallout 3, and I have had no real problems yet.

As for the rest of my game collection, I have not tried anything yet, since some "complications" involving shutdown issues and excessive slow-down issues that occurred after I got a replacement motherboard when the first went belly up with the power supply.

I tried playing Battlefield 2 / Project Reality.

Windows 7 crashed it.

So I automatically reverted back to Vista.

Fuck you guys I play my PS3 that has Killzone 2 and the best graphics in the world. You guys pay some much money for a shitty computer and are nerds for building them and stuff. What game on the computer has graphics like Killzone 2? The only cool graphics game I saw was Command and Conquer or some game like that.
