(1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

It ceases to exist

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

Humans? To utilize as much as possible the short time they got on this planet.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

I don't know, and probably can't understand. But not from god, at least in the way most of the people catch him.

(1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

Depending on your beliefs and if the beliefs are real, you arrive in a whole new realm. Heaven, hell, wherever. That, or two more possibilities.
Your consciousness could be wiped clean, thinking of exactly nothing, because you don't have any consciousness.
And in another case, you could possibly dream for eternity.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

Most primary goals would have to be centered on oneself. Survive, enjoy your life, and not care about anyone else. Then comes support for others, but without support from anyone else, those goals become harder to achieve. So as you work with a community, you would have to feel some sort of guilt or burden on you, to give back to them, thus creating another goal.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

Supposedly from nothingness. Or from God, in which god was powerful enough to create himself. From another perspective, the universe's existence is powerful enough to already exist from the start of time, which is of course infinite.

The questions:

(1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

I think it either goes to heaven, hell, or purgatory. If not, then it just dissapears and goes away forever........and that is just.....really depressing.........

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

To love. Live and let live. To be kind and caring and loving towards all living things.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

God? The big bang? Some other unknown force? No idea.

Without reading any replies to the topic, I will give you the answers that every single newgrounder has given and will give in the future of the topic.

(1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

It's gone without a trace as soon as the brain dies.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

To live life to it's fullest.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

Scientific theories suggest that it is most probable that the universe came from a ball of mass that exploded and chemical reaction slowly shaped what the universe is now today.

I wonder how right I was.

Foreword: Believe me, I thought about this long and hard, but I'm only going to post short answers. If you need more elaboration PM me and I'll get back to you ASAP.

The questions:

(1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

I believe it dies with them, as I don't think that the "consciousness" of a person is anything more than data contained within the brain. Brain dies, it dies.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

I believe that goals one should have in life are many, and what those goals are is something that's different for all individuals. One common goal I believe we should have is to be amicable with as many people as possible, and not to antagonize those who don't like us.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

I'm a believer in the big bang theory, but as for before that I believe there were several universes before this one, and that the material that made up the tiny pinprick that exploded is energy from the previous universe.

Before that? The original? A complete accident, something happened to create energy, but I don't know what.

(1) Consciousness is a state of being. When you are dead you have no state of being other than your body physically being there so i think it dies along with you.

(2) Enjoy life while praying to God and respecting that others might be trying to do the same.

(3) well if you read 2 you would know that i'm about to say God

Nobody knows for sure, and trying to get a definate answer only leads to stubbornly supporting something you don't really believe in.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

You're alive, just be alive. Nobody knows what is going to happen, nobody knows for sure, but you're alive arn't you. Savor that, live life, have fun, that's all you can do.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

That's not even a question that needs to be answered. Everyone takes that question as if it has to be solved, it doesn't. We're here, that's all we know.

It ceases to exist. I was not alive 100 years ago, I will not be in 100 years. Just as I was not conscious before I will not be when I die.

What should the goal be for all beings?

To live life to the fullest in every way possible. Enjoy every second alive and also try to perfect ourselves as much as we can. But that is what I think is the goal for all living beings, in my honest opinion everybody should find the meaning to their lives and live by that philosophy.

Where did the Universe come from?

Any answer at this point would be merely theoretical. I don't have any solid one. But I believe the universe is something extremely hard to understand with many conditions that go away from normal mathematics and that cannot be understood in "normal conditions". If there is anything remotely similar to a God, it is the universe, in a sense that it holds infinite amounts of information and combinations.

The questions:

(1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

Your soul leaves (or consciousness) leaves the body, and if you cling to the materialistic world ou become earthbound (a "ghost") until you let go of the materialistic realm, once you leave the earthbound realm (or borderland) you, depending on your flaws, reincarnate to learn of your flaws, enter a heavenly realm, enter hell (which isn't the horrible place it is depicted, all it is, is a place where you learn the errors of your ways the hard way, (If god was all powerful why would he let the devil exist), or sent to a midland where you learn of your flaws with others like you.

Don't fear death, for it is only a doorway in to another realm, like birth is to the physical realm, there fore life and death are but one in the same, and you do live forever, spiritually, not physically. Therefore there is no death, only life. we are already in the after life.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

Well who the hell am I to set a goal for everyone else? the point physical life is to defeat the "devil", the devil being the negative, self centered, animistic nature of mankind, to do good works, and stand for whats right, but only you can make your goals.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

The big bang.

(1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

The conscious ceases to be. Simply as that.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

To be happy (to keep it short I won't explain this next bit); life is completely pointless and meaningless, so the only goal we can have is to be happy.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

The universe is the grouping term for all existence, and while some people talk about clouds of gasses sparking an explosion; there was something in existence; the gasses, thus this takes place AFTER the universe began. All other big bang theories can be answered with a modification of this statement.
Don't get me started on a god, or several, as we could be here until next year.
For this question we must settle for the fact that a three dimensional being such as ourselves can not possibly grasp this concept; the beginning of existence, as we would have to be able to conceive pre-existence.

And thus defy, the tyrannous stars...

At 4/18/09 05:36 PM, So-Smart-s0-Dumb wrote: (1) What happens to the consciousness of a person who dies?

It is gone. Consciousness is caused by chemical changes in the brain and once the person dies and the chemical changes stop taking place, the consciousness becomes simply non-existant.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

Logically, there is no goal for any being. Living things don't NEED to exist. Just look at other planets that are completely uninhabited. This is all because the chemical mechanism that created the first single-celled organisms on earth just didn't seem to happen there, and that is okay because whether or not this chemical change takes place is all basically decided by luck anyway... If there was some unfathomable, objective need for organisms to exist, their only goal would really be to reproduce, enough to continue the species in large enough numbers to survive so the goal can continue to be achieved throughout time.

(3) Where did the Universe come from?

It has always existed. Even before the big bang, when everything was compressed, and seemingly non-existant, it was still there. This is the answer I am least sure of, because there is no real way to logically think about this one and come up with a seemingly definate answer.

I actually had thought about these questions for years and these are the results I've come up with using logical reasoning.

Serious Answers:
1. As a Christian, I do believe that there is some form of an afterlife; however, I don't know any of what it could be.

2. The goal of humanity is what the perceptual concensus of the entire race is, meaning that humanity establishes its own goals. Each person has his own thoughts, and when their thoughts are spread to and accepted by the whole, then the goals of humanity change. For example, while the goals of humans today might be to get a good education, get a good job, and get married and have kids, a caveman might have just a goal to reproduce and live.

3. I believe in a blending of the big bang and Genesis references. The Earth wasn't created in 6 days; the six days are merely a symbolism for an unspecified amount of time. Plus, it simply states that "
In the beginning, there was darkness..." Therefore, this could have mean that God caused the events that led to the creation of the Sun, and then an unspecified amount of time later he caused the events that caused the creation of the Earth. All in all, I believe that God acts more subtly, and in a way that science can't detect because science is based on evidence from an experiment that can be proved. However, if God knows that he's being tested and somehow doesn't reveal himself, then no evidence is found.

(2) What should the goal be for all beings?

its common sense that the goal for all beings should be to create a perfect world!! However there is an option with this: we can make it a perfectly wonderful place to live, were there are no more religious wars(or any war for that matter) no more world hunger and no more crimes. Everyone lives in peace and harmony with everyone else. however the other option is to amke a perfectly evil world!!! Where we constantly kill each other and anything goes. However none of these goals will ever be reached because there will always be one selfish person who wants to do evil and wicked things for every good person who is selfless and does whatever it takes to make the world a better place!!!

i love u Faatimah Testman!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do U love me?
