I have friends like that to the point they neglect their personal appearance in favor of their fantasy life. I use to have a friend who became like the weirdest guy you could possibly imagine after getting into anime and what not, he was a senior in High School still played Yugioh and hadn't gotten a hair cut in months by the time I said something. The most confusing part was he didn't even notice and care, however if I mentioned there was something wrong with say his card game he'd go ballistic. It's just a weird hobby.

The onlu anime's I can accept as being actually good are the ghibli ones (howl's moving castle, princess mononoke, laputa, spirited away etc.)
Also Akira, cowboy bebop, and that's about all I can think of off the top of my head.
Quite frankly all the shit that get's churned out today is exactly the same, all under the same formula.
Once example is some kid at school likes a girl but is a total pussy, and some magic happens, he''s always trying to get the girl in a sub-plot, but little does he know she likes him aswell.

Most anime fans hate the ones I listed above, they honestly don't know a good anime when they see it.
