Should I pull an all-nighter? 2009-04-17 02:24:47 Reply

The reason for asking is kind of a long story but...

See, because I usually end up falling asleep pretty late, I wake up late, always around noon, which I hate. So, If I stay up all day I'll be so tired by the end of the day I'll fall asleep early, then I'll wake up early.

I've got enough soda to last me through the night, but the real problem will be something to keep me busy, because if I get bored, I'll fall asleep. So, if you guys have anything tell me.

But, do you guys think this is a good idea?

No, because you will feel like shit during the day.

Unless you can handle that.

Watch the entire length of a TV series or something.

Or just get addicted to meth, so you'll never need to sleep. Plenty of time for that when you're dead.

It's much easier to ease into a sleeping schedule that gradually has you going to sleep earlier. Try getting to sleep an hour earlier each night and before you know it, you'll be waking up as early as you need to.

Take a couple of these.

They're the only "energy supplements" I ever use. And it actually works.

Just don't a whole lot of them or you may get really antsy.

All-nighters are never easy, and if you have anything important to do tomorrow I wouldn't recommend it, you'll be feeling like a zombie for most of the day.

If you really are that keen on staying up all night, just start watching a movie you really like, or read a book or something. Keep your mind occupied as best you can, even if it's just reading the same lines over and over again. It'll give you something to do anyway.

No. All noghters should only be pulled in emergency situations like a big essay due the next day or you are looking after someone.

Now going on to a sleep cycle of only 2-3 hours sleep a day with a mega sleep in the weekends, that is okay, I lived on it for a few years.

I've been pulling all-nighters every couple days, for the same reasons. It sucks. Think I'm doing another one tonight.

I've tried it numerous times. Doesn't fucking work. You still wake up late as you have a sleep defosate.

Take it slow, move it back over time.

Or get a 3rd shift job.

Do what I do... Get an alarm clock! No, seriously... If you normally get up at 7 (like I did, but now I dont...) then set it for quarter too for a couple of days. Then do it for half past. Then do it for 6.

I now get up at 6 on week days, but 7 on other days. Yes I am sad...

In fact, I once did that for 5 O clock but I go to sleep at 9, so it was too early... =(

At the same time, go to bed earlier by 15 mins (so you actually get some sleep...). Eventually your bodys natural clock will get you up at about 7.

Ooh, ouch... Why may I ask?

Because I slept too much the day before, because I stayed up all night the night before. It's a vicious circle.

Doesn't sound like a good idea. Pulling all nighters is bad on your body, take my word for it. And doing it without studying or getting work done is just needless stress on your body. I say just try to get your sleep cycle readjusted. Even if you have to lie in bed the first few nights.

Me and all nighters have a love/hate relationship. I'd suggest finding a "project" of some sort to keep you occupied. Something you enjoy doing, obviously... and it'll make time go by really quick.

I tried it.

I fell asleep at 10 in the morning without even knowing I fell asleep. But seriously, you'll feel like total shit and you won't want to do anything.

From experience.. I fell like crap throughout the day, and usually worse the following day. If you really want to help your sleep, cut the caffeine *awaits the collective gasps* and try to exercise in the evening. Its been working for me.

P.S. Pay no attention to the fact that I'm writing this at nearly 3 a.m. =D

All nighters kick ass. Oh wait.. no, they suck unless you're me. which you aren't. Get some sleep buddy, or you're going to crash at like noon, then wake up at 8 P.M. and your problem will be even worse. Trust me.(or not, I could give a fuck)

Try it if you dare. You'll definitely need to keep busy. Ultimately though it'll catch up to you and you're liable to just black out without warning, or worse drop where you're standing.

For example: Last Friday i got up at 2:30pm, went to work at 6PM, worked 12 hrs, then 2 hrs after getting home and drinking a bottle of 5hr energy, headed off to another town for another 12 hours, 8 of them riding in the cab of a locomotive. Didn't get back until 8PM. I got on my computer and while i was on it it HIT me. I could barely see straight, i kept hitting the wrong keys, finaly i had to concede at 9PM. 31 hrs alltogether. Wound up sleeping for 15 hrs (12 of it straight).

That's right I like guns and ponies. Problem cocksuckers?

I did it many times before, but you'll probably end up falling asleep during the day.

To post or not to post, that's the question.

I do a lot of all nighters just because I can't fall asleep, or if I am writing up an essay I should have done days ago. But I go through the day feeling like shit, and many times I have just crashed during the day. If you're going through with this, just keep yourself busy during the day, because you'll probably just want to sleep if you got nothing to do.

I wouldn't really recommend doing this to reshape your sleeping cycle. What you are doing is depriving yourself of more sleep, so the following night you when you do go to sleep you'll wake up later then usual. Then you'll have trouble sleeping that night again.

All-nighters are fun, but they've got a crappy after-effect.

The day will fly by after you're done with your 2 hour day nap and then by the time you know it, it's night, and you're pulling another. That is if you haven't collapsed from feeling like crap.

Which in the end is a good experience because later on in life you'll think of this and laugh and laugh and laugh. Or cry.

..Assuming you have the motivation.

I always found this solution the hardest. It's just hard to unglue yourself from the computer screen if the reward for doing so isn't worth it all that much.

I have only pulled one all-nighter but for some reason I didn't feel tired at all the next day. It was really boring though because time feels like it has slowed down.
