Hi everyone, as of midnight last night, my internet explorer browser decided to stop working with newgrounds. I cant explain it, nothing has changed on my side, and it doesn't appear that anything has changed on newgrounds.

When I go to vote, it never goes through. I just receive the IE error "object doesn't support this property or method". I signed out of my account to see if that would fix anything. nope, now it wont let me back into my account.

It seems like anything that uses flash to submit returns the same object error.
I'm currently working in my backup emergency browser, google chrome, the voting and sign in features work fine. and before you ask, yes my flash player is completely up to date. It only stopped working near 24 hours ago.

Any Idea of whats going on? And hopefully some fixes.
(its not a simple problem, I've tried everything that 8 years of computing has taught me)

...you're using an out of date browser, why? I'm surprised it took you this long to have problems; IE6 is horrible, so is IE7, but IE7 is better. Upgrade to IE7 or IE8 or firefox 3.

THIS IS CITRICSQUID POSTING

bleh, I hate IE7, the tabbing system is horrible. Chrome made a perfect tabbing system, sadly their scrolling side bars isnt recognized by my laptop's touch pad so I dont use it too often. Firefox is a memory leak, I dont care how many people like it. its just badly made from a programmers point of view.

anyways, I'm not here for a browser war. Seriously! NO BROWSER WARS!
I just want NG to work again like its been since 2002.

I have the EXACT same problems and experiences. I had to go to a local library yesterday to get my voting points for the day because of this. But sadly, I lost my Tuesday's votes ;_;. using Google chrome now and also tried everyhting . Alas, I couldn't post here to ask for help yesterday as I only got Chrome last night. (its now morning where I'm at)

my guess is that Technology might be taking retards by surprise finally on NG, as Tom hasn't said anything about it yet.

Thanks Adriana, at least now I know I'm not alone with this problem.
I just cant wrap my mind around the "sudden failure" of the flash send vars. I mean, it works, nothing changes (as far as I know), and then it doesnt work. It just doesnt work....

I don't *think* anything's changed with the voting stuff, but could be wrong. However, if you're still using IE6, you should re-evaluate why you're still using it... Support for old browsers get discontinued amongst most websites, you shouldn't rely on everything working in a browser that was outdated by its most stable counterpart 3 years ago.

This is a classic case of Internet Exploder trying to be helpful. You can suppress this warning message within IE - These notes are for IE6, but I think they'll help in any version:

1) Start up IE as usual
2) On the top bar, select [TOOLS].
3) On the next menu, go to the bottom and select [INTERNET OPTIONS]
4) Another tabbed mini-window will appear.
5) Click on the tab labeled [ADVANCED] - it should be the rightmost tab
6) You will see a whole lot of options listed - and they have selection boxes next to them
7) Look for a section named [BROWSING] - it should be right there
8) Find the line that reads something like: [v] Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)
9) Make sure that check box IS CHECKED:
10) Under that, should be [v] Disable Script Debugging (Other)
11) That needs to BE CHECKED as well.
12)Now, find the option that reads: [ ] Display a notification about every script error
13) This option needs to be UNCHECKED
14) Scroll down a little bit more - look for [ ] Show friendly HTTP Error Messages
15) That needs to be UNCHECKED as well
16) Click [APPLY], then [OK]. Close up IE (back to the desktop) and the re-open it. I think those error messages you see from NewGrounds should no longer be displayed.

Good luck - hope this helps!

Right. But whatever they're trying to accomplish still won't work. The error dialogue is there for a reason, because there's an error with what the browser is trying to achieve. What you have advised will get rid of the prompts, but in no way help with resolving their situation.

That is very true. It is only a suppression for the time being that will allow them to work until they update to a newer version of IE or Firefox - and possibly a Java update as well. The only reason why I posted this is because it had happened to me, and I was on an older computer which was in dire need of replacing. Couldn't afford a newer machine at the time, so I was stuck with the old box - which would not play nice with the newer versions of IE and such. I couldn't do anything except figure out a work-around until I could upgrade. Now that I have moved on to a better laptop, with updated browsers and O/S, it all works fine. Thanks for the clarification :)

Your words make sence to me. Maybe I have been holding out for too long...
ah well, I can wish or I can take action. I might as well try to live with this change.

thanks for everyone's input

IE6 is far faster than IE7 or 8 due to lack of tabs and other features. I still use IE6 as my secondary browser besides FF3.

Old thread, I know. But it needs to be said because this word wasn't mentioned in the entire thread:

OPERA.

Get Opera. Really. Opera > Firefox > IE.

I've never used Chrome, so I can't speak to that, but... yeah. Opera rules. Get it. Really. Now. Do it.

I really like Opera, however there are some very small things in it that annoy me. One of these many things is when you're viewing images, the fact that they're centred. Firefox's click-to-scroll image viewing looks far better in my opinion. I use it very often on my Ubuntu partition. Most of my browsing on my windows partition is done with Firefox, though, since it uses less memory and my Windows partition almost always has Flash open, resulting in more freezes when Opera is running.
