I think about this every day, and hope to achieve true happiness, but i still haven't found the answer...
Ponder these questions, at least once in your life.

What defines happiness in my life?

How do i know if i am truly happy?

How do i know if i even really experienced happiness, and my idea of happiness is skewed?

What can I do to obtain this, happiness?

What must i do to obtain happiness?

If i were to remove any distraction from my life, and isolate myself, would i really be happier?

If i were to change the way i look at life, would i be happier?

How do i know the love i am in, is truly happiness?

How come i dont smile, even though i believe i'm happy, but am i really happy?

Answer these questions if you like. I have generally thousands of answers to all these questions, but nothing satisfying.

Happiness is when you feel that all is right with the world.
Real happiness is an indefinite stream of absolute euphoria.

I'm highly extroverted and have an adventurous personality. I would be beyond happy and excited if I was say, Cloud from FF7, and was embarking on his journey. In real life I try to create adventure and new experiences - the best I can do is join the militairy :/

Apart from that, being in love would definitely make me happy. Mind you, assuming my life is serene, I can always make myself happy by thinking positive.

I know many of you have probably typed out what you thought, but than deleted it, since you changed your mind on this matter. Or felt uneasy about expressing your thoughts, which i feel a lot.

I want to hear your thoughts, i hear mine too much :D

It is something to ponder about.

Maybe I can't answer every question you have, but if I could, what would be the point?
In my mind, happiness is a by-product of the truth & virtue that we find when we feel through life. I think happieness can me mistaken, or found to be something that's not quite the whole feeling, ya know? To get the jist of how to be happy, a reason has to be made. If there's no reason, then it's not quite happiness yet.

Just another thought.

Happiness: It is an emotion in which you feel there is no problems in the world.
In reality however, you can't obtain true happiness because there will always be problems in the world.

A positive emotional response.

How do i know if i am truly happy?

If I feel it. It's true. But what I think you intend by this question is, "how do I know if I am truly affirmed in a positive manner?"

As with most things, you can only be at most relatively certain. The best way to determine if you are truly happy is to contextualize your life with a set of major goals or set of things most important to you.

How do i know if i even really experienced happiness, and my idea of happiness is skewed?

Some things are hard wired. [&] It is skewed.

What can I do to obtain this, happiness?

Do things that... make me happy.

What must i do to obtain happiness?

'Know thyself' as a creature of (cognitive) dissonance.

If i were to remove any distraction from my life, and isolate myself, would i really be happier?

Distractions from or in? You can't be distracted from your life.

If i were to change the way i look at life, would i be happier?

Once again. Do you intend to ask what would make me happy or what would affirm me? Because affirmation is not necessarily happiness.

Not to mention that it is highly dependent on the new outlook, how I feel once I've gotten used to it.

Not to mention, paradigm shifts naturally create stress.

How do i know the love i am in, is truly happiness?

Love? Are you asking if it's true love or if I feel truly happy about any love? What's the difference? Or are we back to talking about affimation?

- because love is largely an affirmational matter

How come i dont smile, even though i believe i'm happy, but am i really happy?

Am I asking myself this about myself or are you asking me this about yourself?

nothing satisfying.

I can take a guess as to why: You've confused happiness with affirmation.

Are you in this case qualifying what exactly it means to be an illusion by explaining its use?

You didn't answer his questions... therefore, you didn't define happiness to the extent requested. In fact, you only partially defined happiness to begin with.

For instance...
Bob: Define a duck.
WeHaveFreshCookies: Well you'll never see a duck at the bottom of the sea.

Im glad to have read all your responses. But somehow i feel as if the answer is right in front of me, im just too blind to see it.

My response wasn't like that at all. It was more like this:

Bob: What is a penicorn?
Stephen: Penicorns don't actually exist. (ie, don't fret about it too much)

Granted, I didn't fully answer the question, but I think I did good.

Fair enough.

Some questions though...

In your thread winning statement, were you regarding "true happiness" as having permanence?
...and...
Did you mean "obtain or retain" or did you really mean "obtain and retain"?

Granted, I didn't fully answer the question, but I think I did good.

Well its a good point to clarify ephemera.

Being happy is simply feeling good about yourself in self-confidence, self-respect, strong, clean, and everything in between.

I meant them both. It is impossible to obtain true happiness because as soon as somebody get's what they want, they aren't happy until they get more. There's never satisfaction. People always want more, more, more.

For the same reason, if you're at true happiness, you cannot keep it.
