4.15 / 5.00 17,012 ViewsSomeone care to explain the appeal of this show to me? I'm not seeing it. There's is nothing funny about this show. Granted, it's not "bad" or insufferable, just incredibly boring.
What am I missing, guys?
I like the British version of The Office so much better than the American one.
I dunno? I think it's boring too. I like the theme song though!
I thought it sucked. The camera is annoying too.
Being that you're 17, I'm assuming you've never had to work in an office before. When you've done so, try watching it again. That shit is hilarious.
The Office has been very hit or miss lately. It also depends on if you just started watching the show. If so, then you may be missing a few of the inside jokes that have been built up over the years. Or maybe it's not your style of comedy. I would recommend you give it another chance with a different episode before you make your final judgment.

the American version does a poor job trying to make this funny. Now all the episodes revolve around Micheal acting really childish. The original British version is a lot better at not sucking.
How do I Forum Post?

Agreed, the British version is by far the better one, but the appeal of that show to me has been the portrayal of the monotony of office life. I've never been a huge fan of Micheal, because he reminds me too much of the boss that I have (which is the point of the characters, but still).
To me the beauty of the show is when they show the various ways the workers kill their time - the games they make up, all the random gossip, that sort of thing - because it truly reflects the kind of environment I find myself in every day.

Fuck you and the high horse you rode in on, alright?
I may be 17, but I like to fancy myself as wiser beyond my years and I have a very broad of sense of humor. Since you're not much older than me (And really, fuck you again 'cause I don't need the holier-than-thou tone you're taking with me right now) I have to assume you haven't worked in an office either. This assumption could very well be wrong, but fuck you again, because you're not more mature or experience than me just because you're 2 years older.
Is that really what it takes to appreciate The Office? Having expericence in an office? Then I should feel bad that I seem to be the only person in America who doesn't enjoy this show, because apparently it only has niche appeal.
The Office is decent. the Brit version is pretty ok, but pretentious people like to pretend it's worlds better than the American one because liking British shit makes you fancy. i've seen both, yes theres a difference in humor, but neither is really better than the other.
the american version has turned to shit this season with all the lame ass loveydovey shit with pam and jim, basically turned into a dramedy/romantic comedy which is lame as fuck. michael and dwight are the only characters that make it really entertaining the rest of the people are just assholes to them and dont apprecaite how awesome it would be to have a fun boss like that irl.
altho i did watch the last 2 episodes, where that black guy comes in to replace michael and michael quits and shit, and the show is starting to redeem itself, going back to the way it was around season 2-3. hopefully the new one today will be decent.

Chilllllll..........
All he is saying is that he is assuming that you havent work in an office. Dont get so angry.
You'll get high blood pressure...

I feel the purpose of the black guy is to make the office seem more normal. The wirters thought "What would happen if we brought a normal person into the office?" I thought the first episode was pretty good, I'm looking forward to the second one.
This whole season has been shit.
The earlier ones were better, and there are a lot of inside jokes that you have to get to make it funnier.

Agreed, it's much funnier in the UK.

yes, that's exactly it haha. we're all used to what goes on in the office and everyones usual antics, but it would be really bizarre and extremely unprofessional to an actual factual businessman.
although i don't see why wearing a tux to work is such a big deal, im glad jim finally had something bad happen to him. after her scored pam he's like "*sniff sniff* yep *neck crack* i'm the shit. instead of this show having a laugh track, i look at the camera and make an O_O face"

Calm down dude, I wasn't trying to belittle you for your age. What I was saying was that experience in an office setting makes shows like The Office and movies like Office Space that much funnier because of the experiences you gain. Yes, I have and continue to work in an office, which is one of the reasons why I think it's a funny show. The characters in it are - for the most part - an exaggeration of some of the personalities you can encounter in a typical dead end office setting.
What I was attempting to tell you before you chose to jump down my throat about it is that if you get some experience in what a show is based on, it does become funnier because of it.
The british version was better. This one isn't realistic whatsoever.
I saw some of the American series...I enjoyed it I must say.
I suppose the American series is more BAM IN YOUR FACE HUMOUR, whereas the UK version is built on incredible awkwardness and subtlety.

yeh they really shouldnt have tried the same premise as british. brit one has limited number of eps and is a believable documentary format. but if the US one is supposed to be a documentary movie, it would be a longass movie. its basically just a fake reality show now, not THAT different from original premise but yeh, even then its still really sitcom-like.

^^ the camera is pretty annoying, its always moving around or shaking, idk if theyre going for that look so it looks more like an independent documentary or what
i also dont find it very funny

I mean, the guy is just doing his job. Everyone has become accustomed to Jim having his way all the time and taking advantage of people. The new boss (For the life of me, I cannot remember his first name, I know his last name is Minor) is just a good change of pace. He seems like a jerk because he hates Jim, the person who seemed normal when Michael was there.
So, I think I may need to do a lot of catching up but I've decided that I could totally dig on The Office. Tonight's episode when Andy and Dwight were both trying to impress that girl with their instuments was hilarious. I almost died when Dwight started singing in German, but not nearly as much as when they both started playing a duet half-way through until they got interupted by some asshole. "You need to stop". Great stuff.
besides, it comes on before Parks and Recreation so what else can I do?
Yeah those were good episodes yesterday. They had them before and after that new Parks and Recreation show to get people to watch, but I DVR the Office so I didn't see it. I hope P&R gets cancelled, even though I haven't seen it yet, because Aziz needs to not be busy with that shit so that there can be new Human Giant.
The Office sucks just as much as Scrubs.
Its like marmite you either love it or hate it and I dont really find it funny. But others do. It is a slightly different type of humor.
you know.........i also don't see the point in The Office. what's so funny about it. my name is reaper is awesome
I feel The Office is slowly climbing out of its hole with those last two episodes, but we have yet to see. The season was pretty disappointing up till. I hope it gets better.
P&R looks okay, Amy Poehler is a decent actress. I loved how you can hear the people in the bathroom from the Michael Scott Paper Company's office. When Toby was on the phone I laughed so hard.
at first it was funny but like "hehe i get it" funny, not like "WTF! that was some f*ckd up sh*t lmao" funny.
it was funny at first cause its some sort of a new genre of comedy but after a while it gets too boring that when you just hear the intro song you just want to shoot your tv with a double barrel shotgun
Before you can enjoy the office you must understand it and get used to it. It's supposed to be a documentary of the office life but the people who chose Dunder mifflin made a bad decision. Michael thinks he is the coolest boss ever. ( dwight does too) Dwight and Andy Compete for number 2 by sucking up to Michael. Jim does barely any work but is put at number 2. Pam and Jim have had an on and off relationship for years untill this season.
I hope that will let you understand what's happening and let you enjoy the jokes more.
