Do all old people become virtous? 2009-04-08 15:23:56 Reply

As my dad took me to eat at a restaurant filled with all old people the other night. I heard on old couple talking about church, of course, lots of people talk about church but it got me thinking, why are so many old people so virtuous?

I don't really know that many old people, but for instance my grandpa is always preaching bible scriptures, or whenever he has a sip of alcohol, he goes on a 15 minute speech about how he only uses it on very special occasion.

I mean, have you ever seen a really old person that was just crazy as hell? That you could cuss around, or act like yourself around>? I don't. I just wonder what makes them straighten up their act, or maybe they were always straight, or maybe I just have never met any crazy old people.

Well, general, go ahead and do what you do best, discuss.

Hell no.

Some type of people have the tendency to live longer, though.

Cohort effect. They were all probably raised more religiously than we were.

Also, they're about to die and don't want to go to hell. Obviously.

They came from a stricter, more religious, more well spoken time than us.

I know ALOT of old people because my grandma goes to church, and trust me, it's either because they were raised to go to church every sunday and act all Catholic, Christian etc.
But there are the odd few groups that go because they are afraid they are going to hell, so they think a few months of church time will guarantee their spot into heaven.

Reason number 1 - Thats fair, nice to know some people still give a shit about religion.
Reason number 2 - Stupid old fucks.

You're hanging out with the wrong type of old people.

I've met a few who are a little more provocative, those are the ones that are a little more down to earth too.

For the most part, old people learn of their own mortality and start finding out what they really want in life, like family and friends and usually religion.

Do all old people become virtuous?

Some become pedoes, some become politicians, some become heroin addicts who will sell their own kids in order to shove crack in every available orifice in their bodies, some become anti-smoking campaigners.

So in answer to your question, no. It might just seem that way because a lot of young people are stupid and lazy and have little or no respect.

Might be cos past generations were brought up in a more devout society... also they may just think about death a lot and decide that it's best to be on the safe side.

My grandma's pretty much the same way. Whenver I'm on the phone with her, she always talks about the good lord and how God will always be on our sides if we're talking about a serious situation. I know she grew up in a house that taught more of religion than any other virtue.

My grandpa's the exact opposite. Whenever I get a chance to talk to him, he never brings up any sort of religious matter. We talk about a lot of different things, like hunting, sports, amongst other topics. To say that the gender of the older person isn't necessarily a statement I'll throw out, but in my case, that is the situation that is presented. I just don't think my grandpa was that religious of a man.

Uh, what?

My point was, the fun-hating pious types have healthier lifestyles, and tend to live for a longer time, and tend to also be really moralist about it.

What if God really lied to us all and everyone who believes in him gets sent to hell?
My point is that this scenario is just as likely because we can´t know.. So that doesn´t make sense.
