I hear time and time again in epic orchestras. Ensembles of people epically chanting to climax, the short staccato attacks. But is there a name for this? And maybe a few samples packs I could invest into that have them? I think we all know what I'm talking about.

Choir.

My favorite singer/actor is Miley Cyrus. What are you going to do about it?

As stated above, it's simply a choir... there is no musical term used for a chanting choir as far as I know... So to achieve that sound, you'd need a pretty expensive VST... because most plugins that include choir samples do not include the ability to make words out of those samples.

A few of them do... but as I said... they are also very expensive.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the new PLAY interface though.

Somebody suggested this a while back, I haven't been able to try it out myself, but..

You could take a good-sounding regular choir and mix it in with your voice through a vocoder. You can sing the chants yourself and record it yourself. ;)

Fair play, just had a look through the library on the site, and the sounds are awesome. Just a huge pity that they cost so much :(

I use the PLAY interface, and I have no problem with it. When it was first released it was pretty buggy, but they've smoothed out any bugs I came across. Symphonic Choirs can sound very good, but it takes a LOT of fine tuning with their photox language editing tools to get it to a presentable stage. Any choirs in my music from 2006+ use the Symphonic Choirs, as I haven't found anything better yet.

Gregorian singing.

Gregorian singing is consisted of 1 singer up to 8 . And they are singing in chants.
Don't really remember shit since music in school. But I believe it is that way.
Otherwise just wiki it.

Staccato choirs are tough to get to sound good, but you can do it for free, no words, but stong hits of ahh's are easy. Download Magnus Choir, and find a couple of different soundfont files and turn one or two of them up really high and put a shit ton of reverb on them. Then just adjust your timing on your louder channels to hit really short and sweet and make your softer channels hit longer more drawn out notes, then you have your hits a bit more dynamic.

Read the whole thread, a link has been posted to a VST that allows you to create the chanting you're looking for.
