Why is it okay to make fun of...

some diseases, but not other ones? Like, in my school, it's entirely funny to crack an aids joke, or really any joke about any disease except one. No matter who cracks the joke, if anyone makes a parkinsons disease joke, everyone's like "not cool, dude." I seriously don't get how that winds up being the disease that everyone's too afraid to make fun of. Does everyone seriously have some relative with parkinsons?

Discuss. Are there any diseases that your community of friends chooses to not make fun of? Any ones that you make fun of all the time?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean seriously, i don't crack cancer jokes because i had lots of family members with cancer, but even if I had a family member with parkinsons, it's still a funny disease.

Oh, god. One of my friends, Brandon, is one of those people who you mention something to, and he repeats it over and over and over despite the fact it is out of style. One time I cracked an AIDS joke, and now every sentence he makes includes "AIDS" in some way. More recently, I accidentaly did a mudkips joke, and now I can't hear the end of Mudkipz.

Exactly, some people have family members who died because they had cancer, so sometimes they don't like jokes related to it. I usually don't make fun of any disease or illness, but I hate when people make fun of people who have disorders since they were born, like down syndrome.

The thing is, is that these jokes seem horrible when they first get made, and you end up just getting shock laughs when you make them. The jokes get made enough that people get desensitized, and then its just "lolaids" and it's not funny anymore.

Then people find a new, horrible, debilitating disorder, and it might take a while before it's funny to a wide range of people, and not just horrible.

sounds like everyone at your school has a giant stick up their ass. I've never met anyone who stopped talking to me all day for making a tasteless joke. Usually if I go too far with a joke people just go "woah dude, too far." and then I stop and we're fine.
