I sometimes look at games and wonder how people make such graphics.
So my question is... How do people make such AWESOME graphics for games? :D

with the dino run thing, which i believe is pixelated, most likely was made in some pixel-making program.

Or the downloadable pixel tool for Flash. Either way, the best way to be able to draw good graphics is to be good at drawing, believe it or not. You can draw just about anything you've seen on this site in Flash (except for a few things you might need Photoshop for), if you practice enough.

I believe they used the pixel plugin on Dino run
but usually artists simply draw in flash.
Check out the Behemoth Devblog
there are some cool videos of Dan drawing the castle crasher grafics.

tip: when shading, do two layers of shade one layer main and another next to it slightly lighter.

For pixel art you can use the gimp, just make what you want to make then use blur -> pixelate. Also people make great art because that's what they like to do.

If you want to make great art try and spend at least 10 minutes a day making art with any tool you have at your disposal.

At least in one of the videos (Undead Cyclops Boss) Dan shows how he animates.
Basicalle he rotates, skews and tweens the drawings as much as he can
and whenever he needs a new angle or something he draws another version of the character.

Well... he has sketches so I still don't know how he ever managed to draw that. And what settings do I need? What tools do I need? :P

It all depends on personal presference, I draw with a smoothing of 40 if and when I use the brush tool, but with the pencil tool I just draw a line and start bending it and such. Plus you need talent and years of practice for good drawings. I'll admit, I suck at flash drawing but I continue practicing, so one day I may be good.

Zooming in with brush tool and drawing or drawing big at 100% and shrinking your graphics down helps.

It does take a while, but I wouldnt say years. If your not born with it.. Its way harder to master.
I know so many people just say practice, practice, practice, but that is really the only true way of improving.

Hmm... Can someone tell me how to make my moving character animated? If I try and I press the right key it freaks out.

I'm not trying to be an enormous ass here, but if you're going to ask questions about every little step you take with Flash this topic will have hundreds of pages in a matter of days... You could at least check a few tutorials here on NG (which someone else has linked you to already I think), use Flash' help function or check Google. Try to do a little research of your own instead of immediately asking people all of these really, really basic questions. If you want to make animations or games with the same quality as Portal Defenders be prepared to spend many years drawing and animating (warning: look at what it did to Luis ;)). Not a tool in the world can help you with that if you don't have the skills or the dedication to learn these things on your own.

I really appreciate your fair answer but I just want to figure out how to draw in flash and to animate my character, while waiting for answers I also search google and other flash sites.
And you aren't being an ass because you did try to be nice to me :P

I have a little question about those videos - how is Dan colouring with the brush really 'messily' but having all the parts that go over the lines erased automatically? It's as if there is a mask there all the time, but surely he can't be doing that every time. Also, was that the brush tool or pencil for the outlines? Looked like brush, but then that first thing is what's confusing me here.

okay to you and anyone else in this thread who is hoping to learn drawing and animation, i present to you the best animation tut that has yet graced my eyes on newgrounds.

it shows you how to do drawings, how to FBF animate, how to use motion tweens, as well as a few more technical things or small things that actually improve on your flash's look as a whole.
