This was leaked about a week ago from Marilyn Manson's new album, what do you all think?

I don't like it, personally... Sounds far too dancey, i really hope Manson isn't going all shitty pop-goth like MCR did, after basically a decade of good music.

I've found with Marilyn Manson that his peak was in the 90s and he's made some pretty good songs (examples), but now it's wearing thin and if he stops writing music he's finished... He ought to stop now with dignity before 10 years pass and he becomes just another pop musician who stopped being original a long time ago.

Most good bands manage to do that without having to repeat themselves.
I personally don't like it when a band changes their style in a sell-out way, like that of Metallica.

But band's like Ulver that change their style completely and not to something more commercial do it very well.

Not that I consider MM a good band anyway...

That is irrelevant, bands can do whatever they like with their sound be it stay the same or try to innovate... Marilyn Manson's changed his sound with practically every new album (Antichrist was heavier, Mechanical Animals was glammy, Holy Wood was political etc)... What I expect a band not to do is take a commercial turn for the worst when attempting to "innovate".

I recall there was another leaked MM song (couldn't find it on youtube, probably got deleted) that has a beat-then-clap beat that's often heard in modern R&B or dance music (like in My Humps, *shudder*) - it's been done to death and sounds awful.

That was exactly what I disliked about it though... I do like upbeat music (look up Madness or The Pogues), but it just doesn't sound Marilyn Manson. Changing style is all very well but it has to be within reason, otherwise it just loses that spark that makes the artist unique.

I never understood this argument. Metal is such a wide and loosely-defined term that you can't possibly draw a fine line on what metal is.

Black Sabbath are Metal.
Slayer are Metal.
Cannibal Corpse (god forbid) are metal.
Iron Maiden are metal.

But none of these bands sound anything alike. Marilyn Manson is metal, because it fits within the loose parametres. Don't say something isn't metal just because you don't like it.

If Marilyn Manson isn't metal, then Led Zeppelin are not Hard Rock because they didn't sound exactly the same as other hard rock bands of the time and had a bluesy influence. The Fun Loving Criminals weren't hip-hop because they were all white and they played with instruments instead of turntables. Prodigy aren't electronica because they have a slight punk-undertone and sound very rave.

It depends on what you mean by genres - I think you need some kind of differenciation (you wouldn't group the Beatles and Cradle of Filth in the same category), but I hate how you have all things like Doom Metal, Speed Metal, Industrial Metal, Power Metal, Thrash Metal... Didn't know they had new stuff out. This song's not bad. I really prefer Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, Holy Wood, to anything from Golden Age onwards.
