3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsToday I woke up to the sounds of helicopters and a bunch of text messages saying "omg what's going on". I live in upstate New York, and nothing happens here. But apparently, about four blocks from my house, there was some sort of hostage situation. Hearing this, my roommate and I suit up and head down there.
Unfortunately the police had blockaded off the area from several streets away, but we did manage to get close enough to see the squadron of cop cars outside one of the offices near downtown, as well as the Binghamton SWAT team. Remind me to tell you a funny story about these guys later. After running into one of the waitresses at a local Denny's (small-ish city, everyone knows everyone else) she told us it was pretty much over and nothing had really happened. So we lost interest and headed back, and then I find out that about a dozen people were killed.
Craaaazy shit, huh?
That is crazy. Now about that funny story...
That is crazy. Why would the waitress lie about it. Perhaps she played a role in this dastardly deed somehow.

Okay. About five years ago my father was threatening to off himself in our bathroom after loading up a a bunch of shotguns, so the police force decided to call in the Bingaling SWAT team. They pull into our driveway, tell my family "It's okay, we can handle this situation" and then went up to the house. About five minutes later, a guy came back asking if there were any other way into the house, and I'm like "Yeah, through the basement." And he just looked at me and said "...Where's that?"
So I go in, show him the basement, lead him into our house, and he's like "Alright, thanks kid. I can take it from here." Then he stopped for a moment, looked around, and said ".Uh.. Where's the bathroom?" So I sigh, lead him to the door, and he's says "Are you sure this is the bathroom?" Y'know, despite me having lived there my entire life. So I knock on it, and I'm like "Hey, dad. The police are here. I'm gonna go outside." and he says "Yeah, I noticed."
Then the guy flashed me a thumbs up and I'm like "whhhaaaaaatever"

You're a fucking retard.
Once and for all, Binghamton is NOT in NYC and is about 3-4 hours away by car.
I'll repost the map I posted in the previous thread so that there's no confusion between Binghamton and NYC.

Nothing happened, my dad's fine, he got off with like a hundred hours of community service and our family jokes about it.

I keep getting mixed reports from people. Some people say it was one guy who shot himself later, some people say it was a few guys. I heard it was a Vietnamese man and they had to bring in a translator or something. Given some of the details, like the people being wrapped up in sheets, it sounds like it may have been more than one guy.
My side of the story:
I live in Binghamton, and my school is like 1 1/2 blocks away from the place where all this was going on. For my 7th/8th/9th period classes we just sat around and watched the news.
The day pretty much went on without incident, but I hear this one girl was flipping out and someone told her "It's the shooter" when some classroom door slammed. She pretty much had a total breakdown and burst into tears.
It all would have been fine, but on the bus ride home, we pick up this annoying-as-hell 5th grader, who said the instant he got on the bus, "Do you think the shooter gagged people with duct tape and tied them to chairs?" Jesus Christ. 12 people died, and this kid just wants to know if things turn out like they do in action movies. Kids these days.

Exactly. In fact, they're both well over 100 miles away.
I don't want any more retards coming into this thread saying that this all happened in NYC. Just take the time read the CNN article linked in the original post with particular attention to the last sentence: "Binghamton is about 140 miles northwest of New York City." You don't have to live in NY like I do to understand that.
I have a couple of relatives who live in Binghamton and I haven't contacted them yet about any of this. But I know this is pretty much all they're going to be thinking about for a while. I visit Binghamton about once or twice a year (usually in the fall and winter), and it's definitely not a likely place for something like this to happen.
who cares if 12 people died in new york city
i beet more people get shot in new york city every day
new york city is a dangerous
really dangerous
new york city that is

not to bring up gun rights but...........
here we go :(
if someone in that building had a concealed weapon this could have been nipped at the bud saving most of those peoples lives.
now the gunman had a gun weather it was legal or illegal it doesn't matter because if you made stricter gun laws people like this would have gotten the gun either way.
criminals get guns illegally if they need them, gun laws DONT STOP CRIMINALS

God, don't even start to bring that shit in here. Twelve people are dead. You're an ass.

if someone in that building had a concealed weapon there would not have been twelve dead.

You're right. If everyone had a gun he would not have bothered to have taken hostages, and instead would have just opened fire with his automatic rifle in the room full of thirty or so people taking their tests.
So we'd have about thirty or so people dead. And one dead gunman. Instead of 12 and one dead gunman.

wow you're a moron, someone would have shot him before he would have been able to shoot 30 people.
It's sad that half the people here don't know the difference between New York city and New York state.
Anyways, I didn't think anything happened up there.
In all seriousness that sucks

You have no idea how the real world works, do you?
You're sitting in a room. You're taking a test in a state office, and you're concentrating heavily on it because it means the difference between getting citizenship and not. Suddenly, there's a loud sound behind you. People are screaming. Panic ensues. In the ten seconds before you get shot, you manage to get a glimpse of the woman at the front desk, covered in blood and slumped over in a heap. You manage to see a man in the chaos, an AK in his hands, screaming in some foreign language. People are being trampled. You reach for your gun, fumbling with it for a moment because you never thought this would happen.
Things do not work like they do in movies. You're not going to have lightning-fast reactions, especially if you have no idea what's going on.
God damn! I live up there too and i'm on vacation down south. Jeez did they get the captor?
