It's going to be interesting, but I read one story on here and I can't remember who wrote it, but I could have sworn I heard it in a stephen king book, or atleast the plot.
Even if I finish tomorrow, I don't have all the results yet. So, don't expect them tomorrow. Tomorrow was simply the earliest I could return to reading them since my school work is now complete. Seriously, guys, last time I'll say it relax. Also, I don't think I can run another contest t his month because no one else is stepping up to judge, or at least no one has told me they will. Aside from Scarab, anyways. And yeah, I'll probably be pming you soon Scarab if I don't hear from the already approved judges soon.

I might go through them again to see if I can pick out which one you mean, but any similarities to King are hardly surprising. King continues to be one of the most successful and influential (particularly to this new sow of writers, I've observed) writers of the 20th century. I've read more than one story on Newgrounds with a hint of King in the background, just as I've read a few here and there that have a strong Bret Easton Ellis (et al) style about them. I've also seen that writing in a stream-of-consciousness way continues to be popular, which I maintain was popularised among people like ourselves by The Catcher in the Rye, given the status of that novel in schools (and elsewhere) across the States (and hence, the rest of the English speaking world).
King was the first writer I truly got myself into, and I admit, I learnt quite a lot from his work. As much as others within the literature community might bash King for being too commercial, tacky, stilted or whatever, it's hard for many to deny his effects. The same goes for stream-of-consciousness styles, which I use quite often too. I've never read Joyce's Ulysses, which tends to be the reciever of most anti-stream criticism in my experience however.
That obviously doesn't cover being unoriginal, but I'll look through the entries again, because I'm intrigued now!

Ah, that's cool, thanks for that. Regardless of whether I'm judging the next contest, it's unlikely I'll be submitting an entry for various reasons, including most painfully, college-related issues. However, I'm also working on some other things too, that will hopefully be done and showcasable around here at some point. If I'm not going to be judging, I'll try to stick around anyway and dish out the usual comments, given some of the feedback.
Its time to play games and jerk off. And Im all out of quarters.

Didn't realize this was an issue. I'd be happy to step up and help judge the next competition. Send me a PM. At the very least, you'll have three judges, including yourself. Good enough for a competition, if not ideal.

I'll come back and judge too, if you want.

If times an issue (too short) you should extend the competition time, to whatever fit's.
That way the writers have more time to think ideas through and more judges can step up.
I've only just found this thread recently, I'm definitely looking forward to entering this months writing contest and hope that you guys will make it happen.
If judging is an issue, I am more than happy to help. Just let me know.
Lol I sent you mah pm and no reply so Idk if you want me.
Ive never felt so excited for a contest to be judged. Not even last months

ok seriously, wtf is the hold up
never been a patient person.

Careful Reno, don't upset the judges, or we'll never find out what happened. Hell, you could've been the winner before that remark :)
lol if patience was one of the things they judge on, then I was fucked long before this month started and therefore I wouldnt give a crap xD
Since that would be an insanely stupid thing to judge on, I do care wtf is taking so long xD

Yes I have to admit, this is taking some time to judge but oh well in your own time lads. Not pushing you to the level in which you may turn into some sort of sink demon and eat me...

If you realllly wanted to know you could politely PM one of the judges who isn't done yet and ask them how they're doing.
That being said, I missed it this time around: is every judge reading every entry or is it being split again?

I'm not sure exactly, and I don't think I have any evidence to back this up, but I'm pretty sure every judge is reading every entry this time. I don't think we have quite as many entries as last month, and a few on the first page can be eliminated immediately due to them not cutting the minimum word count anyway, so I think there's a lighter load overall this time around.
For the others here posting away anxiously, try to sit tight and be patient! I'm pretty sure Fyndir, 36Holla and Lost-Chances have done their scoring. I'm less sure about gumOnShoe and RapeMuffin, but they're probably at least close to finishing anyway, and gum might even be onto collecting all the scores in, as described in the entries post. Anyway, that same part of the post also discourages talking about the judging process, so I'll shut up on that front. Just try to wait a little longer... I know I'd rather have a bit of waiting than no contest at all, anyway.

Judges rank users on a 10 point scale. And then submit their results to the contest organizer, that's me. I then take the top five scoring submissions from each judge and give them a set number of points to illiminate any bias present from the 10 point scale. A judge who gives a piece his highest rating, gives that piece five points. The second highest piece gets four points and so on. Points awarded from judges are totaled and the user who has scored the most points is considered the winner. In the event of a tie, the averages of the 10 point scale results are used to break.
As a board of judges we attempt to read all submissions posted to the contest. In the event that there is unexpected turn out, we may move to a two phase system. The first phase is an elimination phase where stories are split up between judges, with overlap. Top scoring submissions from each judge make it into the final round of judging and we revert back to the system described in the previous paragraph for the final set of stories.
i don't think there's been enough ntries to force splitting up the entries. so i would imagine they're reading them all and that's what is taking time.

Yeah, that's some good news right there. Splitting up stories... maybe if there were a ton of entries. Even then, as a Writer, I'd hope to get constructive criticism from all the judges.
I will be finishing all of my results tonight, but I am still waiting on two other judges who have not pm'd me their results, even though one claims to have finished. :/
Good reviews take time and considering this is all on a volunteer basis, any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks Judges!

I'm not sure if you noticed, but I gave your entry a few comments at the top of page six. In a very brief summary: good job, I liked it. I'm not a judge or anything, but I like to give a few opinions here and there, and perhaps stimulate the place until the results are ready!
So, the results turned out to be interesting in a lot of different ways, some of that has caused some ... delays. I hope that RapeMuffin & Fyndir will get back to me at some point today so that we can put this contest at rest tonight.

Heh, if that's not a tease, I'm not sure what is! That's good to hear though, and it does indeed psyche me up for the results.

That's cool. I think we can all be patient for however long is needed anyway. Once more, possibly for the last time in this thread, a thank you goes out to you guys, and good luck to all the entrants.

exciting. possible dissension amongst the judges. results awaited eagerly. side note, with a little typo, results becomes resluts. born again whore.
Star Wars: Revenge of the Lesser Judges
It is a time of unrest of the Newgroundic as dissention amongst the the writers has caused a break in the former solid government. Judgei Master Gumonshoe has ralied his forces in the nearby Talk Thread on the orders of Chancellor Rapemuffin. The Chancellor on the other hand has just dispatched a special Judgei force sent to capture him with the help of his now new apprentice Darth Fyndir.
We join the two Judgeiths as they discuss their evil plan
"The time has come, Lord Fyndir. The Judgei way is at an end." The Chancellor elaborated, speaking with a slow rough voice. "Now is the time to strike, while the Results War is hitting its high point. Take a squad or writers and attack the Judgei Temple. Kill them all and then report back to me."
"Yes my Lord. It shall be done" Lord Fyndir declared, rising from the floor, he strode out of the building and got in his....
you get the picture. I love results that will be controversial xD

How did you know I had a slow rough voice?
Also, I do apologize for the delays on my end. After a heated exchange of PMs with GumOnShoe regarding MANY different entrants to this contest (you know who you are...) I have submitted my final results.
Finally, I would like to offer my services in the form of reviews to anyone who wants one - however, I must caution you that I am NOT an English Major, nor do I have any formal training/background in writing like some of the other judges. My reviews will likely be low-brow and simple, but if anyone wants me to give more feedback regarding their story, please just PM me.

No I didnt, Im fairly new to these forums in general, thanks for reviewing my work! I am glad you enjoyed the story and I hope others did as well. I didnt have time recently to read all the entries myself (I just graduated from ASU and getting a job right now has kept me busy!) but in the future I hope to.
