These two Girls in 7th grade (so about 3 or 4 years ago) used to show me there cuts on there wrists all the fuckin time to impress me, and I wasn't impressed at all...

I think people need to watch out what they think emo is.
An emo is an emotional person who wants to be notice so they put all these weird ass colours in there hair act like they are important and always try to make a scene out of something
Some who cuts them self is somebody who is depressed and upset with life. it does not indicate they are indeed emo. sometimes on the moment you may get so pissed off with life and just snap. i got really pissed off once and i punch clean through a window (retarded me) and i almosted died from bloodloss and hitting a main vital. it is a massive scar now. and its a reminder that there are better ways to clear your anger.

Cutting yourself is the biggest cry for attention you could possibly make. There's always a better way to deal with your sorrow or unhappiness. Inflicting pain on yourself is dangerous and idiotic, and it severely affects both your physical and mental health.

Depression is a terrible thing. I never cut to gain attention. But I would never do anything as stupid as killing myself. I always sterilize the blade and everything. It's the same thing as punching a wall out of anger. It's stupid, and irrational, but it does help you cope. I, personally, embrace pain. It makes you feel so alive. Who the fuck cuts for attention though? You don't cut to be 'cool', anybody who does that is not depressed in the first fucking place. I never cut to get attention, and I would never do it on somewhere so obvious as my arm. I do it on my upper thigh because I don't want my parents freaking out. I am SO glad this wasn't a trend when I was in school, it's sickening. People like this are sickening. Cutting is not cool, it's not something to be shown off like a badge. As people have said, people who cut are highly ashamed of it. Wear long sleeves or anything to cover up what happened. Make excuses when someone sees it. "Oh, my cat did it." For someone to do this and show it off like some kind of freaking new accessory is disgusting and insulting.

Probably going to sound like a dick, but when the majority of people think of something as cool, it is cool to those people. If someone wants to be cool, they try to impress the most people as possible, and wind up doing something that the majority would consider cool.
