Even though your math is correct, you misinterpreted what was written. One tenth of one percent = 0.1% = 0.001 so one tenth of 1% of 298,000,000 = 298,000,000 * 0.001 = 298,000 visitors. Now, 1% of 298,000 is 2,980 , which is exactly what was originally posted.
You just might have misread what he was trying to say....
