It seems like people are obsessed with giving cool handshakes nowadays. I can't simply say hi to anyone nowadays, everyone does these annoying cool kid handshakes where you fist bump at the end or tug the fingers or slide the hands across or whatever.
It's just annoying, and if you don't do it or fuck you it up you look like a loser. I'm forced to do these things like 10 times a day because everyone i see in the hall or talk to do it. Not doing it just isn't an option because I want to have friends, the people that do it are people that are actually pretty nice, chill people.
I recently saw people doing it on a TV show so I guess its going mainstream? Do you guys have to do this annoying shit in other states? I live in massachusetts and its like an epidemic here.

This assumes that you're the one being greeted, and thus do not initiate the handshake yourself but rather receive the handshake. Maybe you should start your own and make it a little easier, making sure that you start the handshake.

It varies per region I find...
On the east cost it's usually a slap of the hands and a quick grip of the fingers.
A little further out small changes where added... like snaping your fingers at the end.
But in California, it was completly diffrent... I kept trying to grip with my fingers and everybody else just kept trying to slide their hand away.
I'd say it's probably pretty universal with it's own cutlural twist depending on social class and region. Like everything else in life. :)

Umm..no
Unless you're like 30 this is just out of place and awkward and people immediately assume you're either a loser or you have a stick up your ass. Unless you're just trying to be funny or something.

There's no real initiating of the handshake. You both see each other and go in for the slap or handshake then you're left guessing what the other person is going to try to do after that. It could be a grip of the fingers (this seems to be the most common) but it could be something else too.
I'm getting used to it i rarely fuck it up anymore, but its just annoying because if you don't know the particular regions "handshake" or aren't in with the cool crowd youll immediately single yourself out as an awkward fool and it just makes it harder to get to know people b/c they judge you based on a handshake.

Dude, if I tryed to outline the handshake that I give out on paper and scan it and post it here the internet would fail. I mean this shit is like years of progression and evolution in hand shake dynamics. My shake is the T-Rex of handshakes.

Uh, everyone down here pretty much does the same shake, normal with the little finger grab at the end.
