iPod Touch ripping us off 2009-03-30 16:09:38 Reply

I am a happy owner of an iPod Touch. I LOVE IT. However, I have a qualm. The iPod Touch comes in two models: 8 gigabytes and 16 gigabytes. So I was pissed when I found out that the Classic iPod has a 120 GB model. How is it that the Touch, the most technologically advanced iPod, and maybe even MP3 Player, has only a small fraction of the Classic's memory?

And yes, I know the Classic is thicker.

With all that multi touch technology it would be far too expensive to give it a larger HDD.

So more people are happy to pay less for less space than more for more space.

Basically target market isn't you I guess.

Would you pay retarded amounts of money for more memory? If I do recall they came out with a 32GB at a ridiculous price.

Also, if you really wanted to put a 120GB HD on a touch it would be real bulky unless they had some real expensive mini HD or SSD

With all that new stuff they put in the Ipod touch i think the reason the memory is low is because it wouldn't be able to handle more.

Larger capacity HDD = bulkier and/or pricier iTouch.

See the logic in this?

I don't care how bulky it is, I just want space to store my videos.

the touch was designed not mainly for music, like the clasic, which serves no other purpouse than playing music (and videos) wheras the touch is designed to be thin and light, and you dont really need that big HD. I have about 40 apps, 2 films, 219 songs, and 18 podcasts, and ive still got about 3gb left (I have an 8gb model) and if you want more storage, you can get up to 32gb.)

It's because of the new high-tech stuff they put into the iPod Touch which means that they had to comprimise memory in order to achieve the same thickness for their models.

Because flash memory is easier to make compact and fit in a space than a magnetic hard drive. That and the touch is meant to be moved around and such, just like the nano. If a magnetic hard drive were in there it may skip and get damaged. The iPod Classics are meant to stay in one place or just held in your hand. The Touch will be turned around, upside down and will travel with you everywhere.

It's all about the density of flash verses magnetic. Though it is more expensive to make a flash based iPod than a magnetic hard disk iPod.

But fuck all of you, I have a Zune. And we Zune users are generally smarter.

Get an off brand name MP3 or phone. iPods are overrated and too expensive. I have a Dell Dj 20 gig for $50.

It has much more vast features, Internet capabilities, camera, etc., so of course there would be less memory.

The Touch uses expensive but slim flash memory. The Classic uses cheaper and bulkier hard drives.

since it has a multi touch screen, the motion sensors and wi-fi,along with other things it is quite expensive, and will take up space. the reason they have such low memory is to keep prices low, and to keep the devise small and light, cause no one wants to buy a $700 ipod touch that weighs 1 1/2 pounds and is the size of a book.

I really don't understand the logic behind lugging around all your music library with you... Most of the time digging around in the folder structure prevents you from listening anything at all, just drop your favorite songs and leave the discography for home enjoyment.

I don't really understand the need to have videos either, you spend just as much time converting and transferring them over, as you do watching them.

Neither do I get the need for these so called "Camera Phones" the only thing they have been useful for is some journalism, the rest of the time they produce horrible images/video that lay there untransferred until the phone breaks, so say good by to those moments of fail.

In other words: Smart Phones = a clusterfuck of fail.

TLDR: Get a Shuffle

The ipod classic is quite a bit CHUNKIER than the ipod touch meaning that it can fit a massive HDD, also the classic is actually quite bassic. Whereas the touch you can jailbreak it and do sooo much more than the classic.

If all else fails....just ask Apple....

It is not just made for an Ipod because it has games internet. You would have to have a pretty big machine ig you wanted 120 GB Ipod touch.

The touch uses flash based logic memory that stores its data, although this is very fast and small, it is also far far more expensive to produce than standard spinning disk drives, therefore the huge price to memory ratio compared to the classic. It is also the same type of memory used in Ipod nanos and shuffles.

I thought you were going to bitch about the fact that Ipod Touch users need to pay to get the 3.0 firmware while the Iphone doesn't.

COPAH AND PAST DONOT COST A TENNER! Or in English, the Copy and Paste Function doesn't seem like a excuse for a $10 bill. Tethering might, but Apple haven't shown it's potential properly.

I dont see why anyone would want more than 8BG, seeming as you can not literally listen all the music you could fit on that in a week, so you could simply change what you want to listen to when you charge it up.
