4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsI'm noticing a trend with many of the stories in games that I'm playing: everything that happens during the course of the story is all according to the bad guy's plan.
I've noticed this in:
-Yakuza 2
-Bully
-Just about every Metal Gear game released since Solid 1
Is anyone else noticing this?
When all else fails, blame the casuals!
The objective is to defeat the bad guy. Once the baddies are defeated there's no purpose to playing the game.
That's because this is a popular choice (one that can be related to no matter how outlandish the circumstance), and is present in all media, not just video games.
I don't know any other way to work a video game plot other than that.
I laugh at your sigs!
There is going to be a point to where we've used ALL possible ideas for video games...
It all depends on how imaginative we can get with our games....
It's because most, if not all, video game stories have already been used to death and dried up. Plus, doing things that you think are helping your cause only to find out you've completely crushed everything you've ever stood for, is a pretty good story. I don't think I'd play a game if nothing went in the antagonist's favor.
I want to see more stories including events not according to the bad guy's plan. Ones that end up saving the life of your character are good, but they're usually the same cliche like some rebellious/anonymous character saving your ass, than running off without a word. I want to see more unexpected events that just happen. In the world, NO PLANS GO OUT EXACTLY AS THEY ARE PLANNED. SOMETHING OR SOMEBODY WILL FUCK IT ALL UP. I want to see killer robots malfunctioning at random times. I want to see zombies tripping on their own feet and objects on the ground. I want to see enemies with the ability to hurt each other, yet stop themselves before they do so, unless the enemy is brainless or emotionless.
I usually frequent the VG and collaboration Forums. If you find me anywhere else, I'm lost and can't find my way back.

You could have a video game that's set during a war, were nobody knows the outcome. Fate decides.

I think you should up on Mario.
Each game is so amazingly different plot wise.

I know! In the 3-D Marios especially, there's such great subtlety and skill in the changing of the story. I mean, first it's about saving Peach and beating Bowser. Then it's about saving Peach and beating Bowser on vacation. Then it's about saving Peach and beating Bowser in space!
The writers for those games should get some kind of award.
Nobody plays Mario for the plot...
for the amount of time yes they are all unoriginal save someone go somewhere save this place be a hero be a villan and so much more, all thats left is that there is a talking piece of shit bouncing around.... oh wait

pretty sure that a year after the word original came about, everything became unoriginal.
