I might be playing too much Skate 2 and all, but how come this sport is so largely unimpressive in real life?

I'm watching the supposedly most impressive tapes in the industry and all I'm seeing is a bunch of air tweaks, regular inverts, fliptricks over stairs and simple grinds.

Where is the Jesus air? Is it really that hard to hold your board up in the air and spin? Where are the complex lines - fliptricking and changing stances while grinding (in fact, I haven't seen a thing tape so far where they fliptricked at THE END of a grind, pathetic)? Wheres all the impossibles, dark slides, FOOT PLANTS?

Even the most celebrated pros in the sport are barely capable of doing a grind these days (*cough*)

Have you ever tried to skateboard? It's impossible. You have to take into consideration time, gravity and balance. It's seriously not easy.

when you actually get off your arse and try it you'll realise how hard it really is

if you want good videos check out Danny Way at the new DC megaramp or check out Toy Machine - Jump Off A Building

Where is the Jesus air? Is it really that hard to hold your board up in the air and spin?

if you're going to talk about that incredibly shit trick, call it its proper name... its a christ air. And they look wank compared to other tricks such as a nice tweaked out 540 japan

:Where are the complex lines - fliptricking and changing stances while grinding (in fact, I haven't seen a thing tape so far where they fliptricked at THE END of a grind, pathetic)?
flipping out of a grind is actually incredibly hard, although I used to be able to do sexchange 50-50's (jumping 180 while your board is doing a 50-50).

Wheres all the impossibles, dark slides, FOOT PLANTS?
check out rodney mullen.

Even the most celebrated pros in the sport are barely capable of doing a grind these days (*cough*)

thats because grinds look shit compared to airs.

basically, you have fuck all idea what you're talking about and are basing your oppininons of a vast incredibly varied sport on a game which bears a very small similarity to the real thing.

You need an extreme amount of air for that, like X-Games Mega-Ramp air for that. If you think it's that easy, try it off a supposedly high fly of stairs and call me when you break every bone in your body.

precisely. and a christ air off a huge ramp looks shite compared to a tweaked out slow 540 or a fast 1080

If you're watching tapes, then guaranteed it's not going to be very good. It's just a way to get a quick few bucks out of some people, they don't really care if what they're doing is shit or not.

Isn't the way the world works nowadays just lovely? :D

Are you really pulling your opinions from a game? News flash retard, the game makes it easy for you. In real life, pulling off that 'simple' air or grind is insanely hard.

you and the OP are both fucking morons.

skateboarding videos along with other videos are aimed at showing the progression of the industry.
riders strive to have an amazing video part to push themself for better sponsors or to just feel good for doing something so amazing.

That's one of the videos I just watched. All he does is tweaks, one foots, and a few fingerflips. Not impressive at all.

or check out Toy Machine - Jump Off A Building

Grinds, manuals, fliptricks, zzz..

Where are the complex lines - fliptricking and changing stances while grinding (in fact, I haven't seen a thing tape so far where they fliptricked at THE END of a grind, pathetic)?

How about flipping during the grind and continuing to grind? I'm sure it's possible. SO GET TO IT, YOU SO-CALLED "PROS".

Wheres all the impossibles, dark slides, FOOT PLANTS?
check out rodney mullen.

He does most of them on plain grind - no fun at all. They need to be incorporated with grinds, airs, and manuals.

right. this will be my last post in this thread, as its stupidity is so unfathomable.

OP, shut the fuck up. If you think you can do better go do better. I've been paying attention to the industry since I was about 10. Thats the past 11 years.

I know what looks good as a trick and what doesn't. Technical lines are good, but what you're asking for would look over complicated and messy.

Lines are supposed to have flow, not just be one hyper trick after another.

If you want technicality, check this video out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcbCCFb0z XI

Until one guy comes up who can flawlessly do what Rodney Mullen does combined with similar skills in air tricks, inverts, and grinds, the sport will always be shit in my eyes.

I don't know it just irks me so badly when I see someone do a grind or a manual and not do a trick at the end. I'm like "ARGH, JUST DO THE GODDAMN THING!"

go and learn to skateboard then. its fucking difficult but good fun.

just wear wristguards & a helmet, a broken wrist can stay with you for life, and a head injury certainly can

A head injury could actually END your life. Or at the very least reduce it's length by a large amount of years.

You are a fucking bovine aren't you? I skate, and I do not find it easy, it took me months just to get all four wheels off the ground. It is shit loads harder than it looks, but due to your distorted view of skateboarding through playing too many video games, you have received a crappy comparison between what IS and ISN'T very good.

Stop basing your logic off video games, and you'll soon realize that a kickflip is just as hard a christ air.

my opinion = fact

It might seem unimpressive to you because skateboarding games don't have enough realism. You just don't see skaters doing random flips and upside-down-board grinds all the time.

Do you skate and have an idea of how hard somethings are to do...... just because you can do it with a character without a conscience to object doesn't mean that a real person can do it. Some of that shit is scary as hell. I don't skateboard, I do aggressive inline ( i find it more fun ;) ). When you post a video of you doing these "christ air"s then i'll respect your response to the "lameness" of modern skateboarders. I will admit that half of the little shits that are on the street or clogging the skate park grounds are little retarded emo kids that are posing to look "cool" who can't do shit and never care to learn to do anything. Those are the kids that piss me off.

When you get out and you do your own stunts and feel the thrill and at the same time, fear of doing all these tricks come and show me because I'd like to see. It's a lot harder than the video games make it look. Boarding is easier to grind than it is inline skating regardless of what people say. Anyway, **cough* those are the skate parks i go to. The first one is the picture of the outside one in Allen, TX... you can see all the posers.... anyway, these are just the mediocre players that have been skating for a few years, some of them are really good.

Regardless, if you want to see a "good" skateboard video with super unrealistic tricks or extremely difficult tricks, go out and do them instead of whining about someone else not being able to.

I'm sure it's harder than it looks. I used to skateboard. Well not really, I just kinda used it to get around. But all that shit is like 10x harder than it looks.
