Obsessive-compulsive disorder, as the name suggests, consists of obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are irrational, unwanted, persistent thoughts or images. They are not voluntary and are events that invade a sufferer's consciousness. They can be worrying, repulsive, obscene and blasphemous. They cause immense anxiety and cannot be controlled. Obsessing over germs and dirt, having things in a particular order and nagging doubts are common with this disorder. Persistent thoughts of performing sexual acts that are repulsive and thoughts that go against any religious beliefs are also common.
Those who experience OCD may engage in certain rituals, or compulsions, which relieve or minimise anxiety for a period of time. The compulsions are repeated continuously and include hand washing, counting and touching things, constant rules to follow to satisfy doubts and incessant rechecking.
since i was little i would have to do certain things to make me happy these thing were very strange but if not completed i would feel miserable and uncomplete.
For example if i were running my fingers along a fence as i was walking past and i happened to miss a plank i would get very annoyed and if i tried to ignore it eventally I would have to walk back and touch the plank.
another example is if i went to the batroom to wash my hands i would have to wash them over and over because they didnt seem clean.
lots of things had to be even like if i were getting out of a swimming pool and felt that i had applied more pressure on of my hands than the other i would bend over and press down to make it even.
Or maybe say i was counting bricks on a wall i woukd have to count them again and again in fear i have missed one.
weird stuff like this really got on my nerves, i think its called Obsessive-compulsive disorder well at least thas the closest thing ive found to explain it yet.
it has kind of calmed down since so this stuff barley happens but i always wondered my i had random urges to suddnely do these things.
Any of you guys have anything like this?
(btw please excuse my poor spelling its kinda dark so i cant see the keyboard all that well).

To be a disorder it actually has to really impair some aspect of your life. Being mildly annoyed by these things probably wouldn't land you a diagnosis, though you would have some of the symptoms associated with it.
This is a link with the straight-up clinical criteria from the DSM-IV-TR:
http://www.biologicalunhappiness.com/DSM -OCD.htm
Dunno how stable that link will be, but it should last the week, heh.

I have OCD as well. Ever since I was about 5 years old I would have everything neat and organized and when I went to go shut off a light, I would hold the switch down for about 5 seconds. Pretty weird I know. But then when I was 7 I started to worry almost every night thinking someone would break in.
I had to go to a doctor and it came back : "You're child has OCD" It runs common in my family but not everyone does, My 11 year old cousin does not, my 15 year old brother does not either. My dad doesin't
However my 18 year old brother , My mom my 10 year old cousin, 15 year old cousin and 23 year old cousin suffer from OCD. Ever since I've been going to therapy it's helping me a lot.
OCD is a very serious matter if you have it bad.

My ex has OCD. She was obsessed about everything being clean because she didn't want her mum to be ill.
This too will pass.

I "Probably" have OCD.
Like if my pet cat were to lick my hand, I suddenly feel the need to wash my hands. I don't need everything to be in a certain way.
Though this one time I played Tetris so much, I started to get that actual disorder, note I said started. Luckily I stopped playing it for a few days and it went away.

I think i might have it, though it has very minimal effects on me. If i hit something with my right hand for example, I have to hit it again with my right one. If I try to ignor this I get a very odd feeling in my hands. It's not that bad though.

I think I sort of have it.
All my games and DVDS have to be stacked up against each other perfectly straight, otherwise it just irritates me.

I've never been diagonosed with OCD, but I can never touch things with just one hand. But only big things. A pen is fine but a table needs to be touched with both hands.

I love it how people have little habits and behaviours and instantly think it's OCD. Didn't autism become infamous because the amount of kids self diagnosing themselves with it?
This too will pass.

I have anxiety first, and this as a second-hand side effect.
I get real worried that everything is going to kill me. So when I leave have to walk around the house and unplug the lamps and things from the walls... so nothing happens while I'm gone.
I rarely cook, but when I do, I check to make sure the stove is off like a million times before I finally go to sleep. Same with the doors... I've woken up in the middle of the night and gone down stairs to make sure the doors where locked.
I don't really consider it a problem... it's more like an annoyance. If I wanted to, I could probably fight it but I usually don't because it eases my anxiety knowing that I did check...
I think everybody has it, really... it's just a question of how bad. People are always obsessive about something...their hair, their nails, digging out all the dirt in the pyramids in Super Mario Bros 2... as long as it doesn't effect your life in a bad way, don't consider it a problem. All the doctors will do is get you addicted to a pill you probably don't need to take that comes with worse side effects then the original disorder. These are usually expensive, and often times addictive. Modern medicne not really worth it these days...

I think everyone has it to some degree, but it really only counts if it interferes with your life.

I'm pretty sure I have ocd, sometimes I feel that I have to do everything a certain number of times (usually an even number), otherwise everything seems out of place. For instance, if I bump my foot into a table leg or something, I have to do it and even number of times otherwise it messes with my mind. It's really annoying.

I have experienced something similar to that. During my Summer break I played minesweeper alot, and all I could think about was minesweeper. If I thought of something else, I'd absentmindedly wander back to minesweeper.
Also, when I had a cold recently, I'd been playing Tetris quite a bit during the day. When I was asleep, I had horrible dreams about Tetris. I even woke up in the night for a piss, and was pretty much hallucinating the whole time. That could've just been fever from the cold though.

How do you get "diagnosed" for OCD? Is it like a DNA or blood test, or do you just talk to someone, and they say "You have OCD."?
