The other day when I was at work, a colleague of mine was going on her lunch break and wanted to borrow my car.
Why?
She didn't want to go into the office and get her own car keys, and she wanted to drive to the McDonalds that was just down the road.
I said what any normal person would say in this situation. No.
I've only known her for a little less than 2 months, and that's only on one or two of the days a week that I'm actually at work at the same time as her. The first time we met, she wanted to trade jobs with me because she'd rather do my job (and I don't know why she thought I wouldn't say no then either). And the general ridiculousness of the situation is just beyond laziness.
I don't trust anyone outside my family (and maybe my closest friends) to drive my car. Who do you allow to borrow your car? And at what point do you draw the line on who you trust?

my car is MY car, no one elses
the only person I'd let borrow it is my dad because he is quite simply an amazing driver
-no ones home-
I only let my parents drive my car. I wouldn't lend it to someone I had known for 2 years, let alone someone I had known for 2 months.
I've only ever let my immediate family and my one closest friend drive my truck.
Other than that, I trust no one with it.
I'm gonna go back to my room and be awesome.

I probably would only let my family, maybe my good friend drive my car, if I had one.
Your insurance doesn't cover accidents unless you're driving right?

Yeah, my brother and dad are the only people who've driven my car, and that's usually when they've got no other option.
I've got a friend I've known for 13 years. If she needed to, she could drive my car, but otherwise, no dice.

saying that if someone i know needed to borrow my car, i'd just give them a lift
-no ones home-
I let my parents drive my car, my girlfriend, my friends, my friends and my knees. Once my knees drove from one town to another. Was quite fun.
1998 Corolla Value Edition HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!
Since none of my friends or family have driving licenses without cars (the ones that do, have cars of their own), it's not a problem I really have.
Even if they did, the insurance on it doesn't cover anyone besides me, so they can all go screw themselves anyway.
.....OK, I don't really give a fuck about the insurance, I just use it as an excuse. :P
This is as far as I know the only thread where everyone who posted within is 18+.
I like this thread.
Also, I will let my parents, GOOD friends and girlfriend use my car. But I think it's only because the few people I trust with it would ACTUALLY care to take care of it.
I drive my girlfriends car :D But I would never let anyone else drive it, especially if I didn't know them well. Sounds like you've got a crazy person on your hands.
Only me and my girlfriend can drive my car... I wouldn't trust anyone with it.
That's just stupid.

However if I did own a car, I'd make sure it's always in perfect condition, just like everything else I own, and you couldn't pay me to let you drive it.
Haha, I'm pretty protective of my car, but as far as "perfect condition" goes... I've only washed my car once since I bought it. And that was only because my parents had the leverage over me to make me to do it.

On a related note: that sounds like one hell of a shitty co-worker you've got there. What's she supposed to do at work?

Same as me. Cashier. Not exactly rocket science.

...Eh?
She wanted to trade jobs with you, yet you both have the same job?
Um, why?
Only family members, because if your friend drives your car, and he crashes, then legally she/he will get busted because they wouldn't be covered in your car insurance plan for the car (so they'll be driving 'without insurance' since their's would be for a different car, plus your own insurance company won't pay for the damages).

She was working outside on a really hot day. I was working inside.

My mini is actually in my parents' name, so only I am legally able to drive it. Regardless, I'd never let any of my friends drive it. It's one of my favorite toys.

Please tell me its one of the classic ones and not one of the shitty new ones.
My car will be my own little castle where everyone else can fuck off. Fuck letting people drive it.
Stop looking
In all reality, no one should be driving my car. It has bad seatbelts, no air bags, and I'm always afraid of going over 65 MPH for fear of it breaking up in mid drive.
no fuck everyone. I used to let any random person drive my car, but after two fender benders, I'm shoving the keys up my asshole and offering people to drive if they can find them.

Where the hell would I get one of those in mint condition under 50 grand? The new one is the most fun car i've ever driven, on the road and on a race track

Mint condition? Probably nowhere. One in fairly decent condition would cost you a lot less than 50 grand.

I suppose it may be like 10 times better than my mazda 121 metro.. but I still feel that it doesn't really deserve the mini name.
Regardless, it's only a lease for a few years and was a gift from the parents. When it comes to actually buying one, I'll at least consider the old ones :P
Release your inner crazy.
Reminds me of a situation a few years ago when someone at my work I didn't know too well, but I knew he was heavily into drugs and getting into trouble in the past, started asking me to go a half hour out of my way to pick him up for work everyday because his car broke down. Your whole situation just sounds similarly awkward to what I went through, and I can see why you're annoyed at her for putting you in that position.
Unless you two hit it off from the first day, two months is way too early to be asking to borrow someones car under normal circumstances, especially if she has her own. It's kind of strange she'd ask for something like that and my first thought is that she might be thinking of going off to do something stupid in your car that she doesn't want to do in her car.
I don't have friends who wish to drive my car because they're too lazy to do so actually. I've driven my friends car for him, when he was out of it and still a bit tipsy from drinking and so far the only people to have driven my car is me, and some family members.

Naw, it wasn't like that. I was around a whole group of people and she was asking them as if she could borrow a dollar for the vending machine. I think there were two or three of us who had a car there, and then she showed me her drivers license to prove she was a "competent" driver, or some shit like that. Seemingly legitimate, just plain fucking retarded.
