Medals were removed. Many lost around 500 points, and someone even lost 1000. The gain for the top 50 is negative too.

Yup, you are right about that. I don't mind losing some medals from time to time, but such an high amount in one week is way too aggravating for all the NG-gamers out there imo.

Agreed. It happened again, and there's not much we can do about it. Keep in mind that it's not just API-mods who are removing medals. Every author can tinker with the medals of his/her game, and sometimes submissions with medals get removed. If we would keep points from removed games (even though it happens sometimes) it's a bit unfair to users who haven't played these games. Lets just be happy we have such an enormous database of medals (almost 30k, I think!)

Bad week for me for medal games. I've been living among monks for 5 days, and strangely enough they didn't have computers there.

It is upsetting when we lose so many medals in one week, and I am surprised that more users have not complained about it. Perhaps, would could make it harder for medals to be removed? When you spend several hours to earn something and it is taken away without a reason, it can drive anybody bonkers.

Ha, I was mostly just messing around this week. Think I'll check the broken medals thread to see what got pruned (if it's listed)

I decided to put my 5 cents in the discussion.

I'm not sure if it happened this week or last week, but one of the Stencyl Jam submissions, The Necrommando was removed by author. Maybe he will later submit a bigger version, I don't know. I PMed him asking about the game and explaining the fact that if he removes the game, the medals vanish as well, but got no response. This situation pissed me off a bit, because I earned all the medals from this game.

Another example: all medals were removed from the Droppin beats game, which as I remember was submitted some 1,5-2 weeks ago. This game was "worth" 500 points, while Necrommando had - I think - some 200-300 points.

I didn't complain about it, because like the legendary Duke Nukem would say "Ahh, shit happens!". There is no way to force an author to make his game available again, also when Mods are removing an entire game with medals, there must be a solid reason for this, so these medals also cannot stay.

I earlier pointed out two games in the broken medals thread, medals from which were as I noticed removed this week, those were: Save the Goons (the game is nod loading anymore) and Chicken Chaser, in which the medals were broken. About the latter: it also costed me some points, since I came back to this game after some months of break just to find out that I cannot earn more medals, because they do not work anymore. So in these kind of situations there is also a reason to remove the medals, because as (I think) @PulseLane once wrote: "Every broken medal is a bad medal".

I totally agree. It is a matter of equality. If somebody stops playing - it's her/his choice. I remember that some time ago RamUrMother made a post in which stated that stopped acquiring medals, because just got bored. But if there are medals unavailable for some, it's an entirely different thing.

According to the list and progress on it: let's make a paralell to, for example, tennis and the WTA/ATP ratings, in which players have to defend their points, or maybe even better paralell to the a bit complicated construction of Snooker ratings. Sometimes you lose points, but if you wanna defend your position, you have to earn more points to cover the loss and maybe even make a gain to improve your rating position.

There are more users who have complained about the loss of the medals (- not the points). And it also includes me. I have asked why they don't just set it to 0 points 2 years ago, that at least like in a compromise broken medals can be removed, but we can keep something as a memento. It seems to difficult to create a system that let medals disappear after a while when no one gets them. Oh wait...

But It is not about the medals, it is about the points they reward. A ranking would be useless when someone doesn't have a chance to compete in it because of not working or removed and therefore unreachable points. Just think about the HTD crap that awarded hundreds of points in just mere seconds. Everyone who could keep those would be uncatchable for new users when they are both active medal hunters. Without the work of the medal moderators Newgrounds would feature an unfair achievement system. Furthermore Newgrounds is not the only page removing old crap. When you expand your horizon you will notice that for example Kongregate does the same. Even Steam removes broken medals when they are properly reported instead of getting in contact with the developers first who already disappeared forever in many cases. Hell, MoFunZone removed every single achievement (including the working ones) in their redesign!

Bonkers after 'several' hours? lol. There are medals that take multiple days like e.g. Plane Loopy, Outpost. Bubble Sky took me 7 months of attempts. They still exist, but can always break, too. When you only lose medals that took you hours, you should be happy about it. There is also something no one can take you. The fun, the emotions and the awesome feeling after finally reaching a specific medal or milestone. And it doesn't matter if the respective medal is a part of your list or not, because clicking through hundreds of pages is defnitely nothing someones ever going to do as leisure activities.

Furthermore it is well-known that not working crap is removed for years now. Everyone still complaining about the system and participating in it does something wrong in his or her life.

100%. That's why I am also posting info about the medals from removed games that still exist in the system.
But actually there can be a situation in which the medals are unobtainable, but weren't removed by Moderators. It happens when the author does not remove the medals but just makes them unavailable. There are some cases of games like these, I even asked about one in the brolen medals thread. In these cases the points are still on everybody's accounts (who earned them earlier), although nobody can obtain them anymore.

I already know the history behind this, actually even lowered medals from 5 of these submissions - which in fact were removed by Moderators - still exist in the system.

I could also add that if all these medals were not removed and for example a newly signed-in Newgrounder would play one game, found broken medals, play another game like this and another, and another then could just say "What a shitty website, does anything work here? I'm outta here!". So it is also a matter of credibility of the medal system and its image.

Even though somewhere between 500 to 1000 points went missing, I still managed to overcome that and have a positive week. 2020 does not sound like much , but it was probably more like 3020. Gaining two ranks is always a great reason to rejoice. :)

The bug with the tool is of course my work. I have used a voodoo doll with it to silently sneak up the ranks.

The first question that comes to my mind is, are the numbers even correct? When a game gets removed will it subtract from the number? And will a game that gets medals only after multiple weeks still add to it?

Btw. you don't need to be scared that I take your place by force. You are free to resign and directly give me the #1 spot. =)

Yeah I'm pretty sure these stats are fairly accurate. There are always some small issues making it not totally correct, but for the most part we can conclude that you have some work to do. =)

Haha, thanks but I have only finished one Kirby game - Amazing Mirror in 9 hours. Nightmare in Dream Land and Dream Land 3 were uploadet at the 29th of May and I have finished them at the 28th already and the last weeks update was on the 31st May.
