Would you donate 8 cents to see a pro-weed commercial be aired? Norml is a big weed activist website if you guys dont know already. They are taking donations to reach a $20,000 goal. $11,000 has been raised at the time of my posting this.

I dislike how far this crap has gone. I don't support weed, and I never will, but people are so damn stubborn on both sides it would be better for the country just to make it legal. Why you assholes need weed, I don't know, but making it legal would have it stop effecting me, and if it did somehow effect me, i'll fight against it.

Legalizing weed will cause it to be picked up by all the major tobacco companies who will do to it what they did to tobacco cigarettes a looong time ago (fill it with a bunch of tar and fillers and make it horrible) then sell it for twice as much as you used to buy it for.

It would still be illegal for kids. And that is not its main appeal anyway. Can kids buy alcohol or ciggies? They won't be able to purchase marijuana either.

Man, there are some people with really severe disabilities and terminal illnesses that really benefit from medical marijuana. Very different from your average smoker that does it for fun. You obviously haven't seen much.

Alcohol is legal and has an age restriction. If marijuana were legalized, it would also have an age restriction, most likely higher than that of alcohol due to the worries about the effects of cannabis on the developing brain. So it would still be illegal for minors to possess marijuana, just like alcohol.

Also, the "doing it to look cool" argument is pathetic and makes you sound like a complete social reject.

I'm with you so far, but I wouldn't call it crap. I think it's a perfectly legit idea! I mean when you look at the facts and history of the drug you do find yourself wondering why this didn't happen just after Nixon was kicked out, and yes, legalizing it would indeed stop it affecting you because all the people who think it's "badass" to smoke pot would stop, and go drink instead.

Okay here's where I lost you. I would hardly call old ladies trying to cure the pain from their arthritis with marijuana prescribed by the government "stoner douchebags". In fact, many of the illnesses marijuana helps suppress are associated with old age, whereas stoners are generally young people.

I noticed a tone in that paragraph that seemed to imply that marijuana is more harmful than smoking or drinking, harmful or more "badass" being what "better" meant. Again, wrong. Here's some facts/figures for you to look at, I'll let them speak for themselves:

Deaths from alcohol abuse in 2008 (US): 19,170

Deaths from smoking in 2008: "despite progress over the past 10 years, smoking is still the biggest killer in the country and results in the premature deaths of more than 87,000 people each year in England."

Deaths from marijuana: None.

Oh, and smoking pot doesn't make you stupid. Example? Who's in the White House right now?

This, I agree with. legalizing it would be bad... they should just decriminalize it and then everybody wins. It's still against the law so nobody says it's "ok" but getting caught is little more then a fine so smokers don't have to live in fear or prision rape for willing participating in a harmless crime with zero victems.
