I used to play platformers occasionally, but I really got into gaming when a friend showed me Golden Sun, which is an RPG.

I enter the BBS with pride.

Believe it or not, it was Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Stadium back on the Nintendo 64, Banjo Kazooie somewhat helped, and when i finally got more into gaming 007: Goldeneye on the N64 gave me a hard dick.

Now i play PS3 FPS games, and very little 360 or Wii.

Well I first got into Mortal Kombat so the fighting genre is what brought me into gaming.

I grew up with a first person shooters, action and adventure, fighting and platformers, which included things like Doom, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Heretic and Megaman. just a few, out of the many I have played when I was younger.

The first game I can remember playing was Doom when I was about 4. I didn't get it, so none of the "violence" back then really phased me.

The genre that got me into gaming is also platformers.Crash Bandicoot 2:Cortex strikes back was the first game i ever played when i was 3 at my cousins house.i sucked at it,but i thought i was brilliant.then 1 year later me and my sister got our own PS1.back then i used to like other platformers too, such as Spyro,(even though Sierra ruined the new games horribly.same happened to crash bandicoot.='( )Rayman, and i also had a demo disk 3 years later with a 2D platformer called Alfred Chicken which i was very fond of playing.ahh,memories.

RTS games got me into the genre. I just love the fast-paced, pressured strategizing. That's what makes it all fun for me, personally.

Shit, this thread got long and I wasn't even paying any attention. It seems like everybody was with platformers and FPS games like me, but a few people got into gaming with RPGs and Adventure games as well, followed by fighting and racing games for some others.

If it's my first game, than platformers got me into gaming. If that doesn't count, than it's First-person Shooters with Goldeneye. What about you guys?
Holy shit, same thing here bro, my first game ever was Sonic 2.

Having all three on Virtual Console, I can say I remember none of what is on the third game. I do remember a little of two and its second player which me and my brother always raced each other in. So Sonic 2 is more likely the only one we had if it was just one of them.

FPS's (DOOM!) got me into gaming. Interestingly, I haven't found a decent FPS since Perfect Dark (or at least one I enjoyed), I mostly enjoy either RPG's or Platformers. (I still play DOOM, though.)

Classic N64 platformers like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. Good times.

Oh yeah, and that Jurassic Park game for Genesis. That shit was tight.

My first game was Mega Man X on SNES, but I also had the Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Super Mario All Stars and Donkey Kong Country.

But if it wasn't Mega Man X and its awesome platformer action gameplay, I probably wouldn't be as big gamer as I am today.

So yeah, platforming in particular got me in to gaming, but now I'm open for all genres expect horror survival (weak minded person I am). My favorite genres being action, platformer, RPG, strategy/tactic and stealth action.

I played a lot of early games on the SNES and Megadrive but I must say that Banjo-Kazooie on the Nintendo 64 is what sparked me into gaming. Just the freedom and the level of imagination got me into it. Being the 64 in general, it was perhaps the best start for gaming.

Thus, Action Adventure though I played Beat 'em up prior and side scrollers.

My first game was Toy Story for the Mega Drive, which is a platformer (well, most of the time) and that's the genre that got me into gaming.
