i've played guitar and bass for four years now. i was at a friends house getting high and this guy shows up. friend of a friend i guess but he comes with a epiphone sg and a 35 watt line 6 amp. he starts cranking out some wonder wall, off time, i might add, and then goes on to play some number of the beast calling it six six six by "those iron guys". one of the guys at the house goes on to say "hey jake's pretty good, let him play." so i get the guitar and go on to play laid to rest by lamb of god and after that orion by metallica. during the second solo in orion, this faggot tears the guitar out of my hands saying I'm making his guitar look bad and that i'm mistreating it by playing to fast and that i'm onna wreck his fret board by doing hammer-ons and that metal fucking sucks. everyone starts to look worried, one of the chicks there tells him to chill the fuck out so i pass his guitar back to him and he says this look, now this is music and goes on to repeat three chords with heavy chorus for the rest of the night. now this is a warning. if you or someone you know has a guitar, please know what the fuckyour talking about before you try and ACT like you know what your talking about.

How much theory have you read into? I would love to hear you play sometime, if you come to NG PalTalk or Stickam I've been known to play over mic on occasion. I'm assuming drugs were involved during your encounter with this douche bag? Probably smoking some pot right?

I suck at guitar... but it's tjhe only thing I know a damn about, even if I know next to nothing about what I'm doing. I hate people who try to act like they're the thit on the guitar when they're playing is just shit. Anyone can play a power chord... but it does take a considerable amount of skill to play an entire song all the way through.
But I'm not a guitar master... I'm probibly shit. it's just the only thing I'm comfortable with. But hey if you want to bust my balls about my musical abilities I already have shit up in the audio portal. I wouldn't recommend you look at it or not. It's nothing special and I'm willing to admit that.

dude, why are you such a condescending prick? its obvious that the topic starter knows how to play, he was playing heavy metal solos and that shit takes some kind of skill. i've only been playing guitar for about 2 months, so i suck hard, but i know how to play. i physically know how to finger chords and play some songs. saying someone doesnt know how to play because they havent delved deep into guitar theory is both fucking stupid and fucking stuck up. as a guitar instructor, you should never be trying to discourage people from playing, or ragging on someone simply because you're more skilled than them. people like you just piss me right off, i swear. you think that anyone who isn't as good as you, isn't good. get off your high horse.

indeed. i was baked, he was drunk. my theory is not the strongest but i have a good ear, a fast left hand, and a heart of gold. i play bass more but guitar's alright. i have an esp f series IV bass, a fender aerodyne strat, a epiphone embassy V bass and a 1971 ovation accoustic. i just learned anesthesia the other day. fun song.

Musicians don't always get on, I've been playing bass for 2 years (self-taught so I suck) and attended a music college for a year now, there's a burst of different styles and musical opinions and as such there's tension and a lot of "you suck" and "That's not music" going on.
Coincidentally, this is me trying to bass solo (All the stuff in the video is my own made up stuff).

That's what guitars are these days, a matter of preference. They sound almost identical anyways, since you're most likely going to play through a pedal.

A lot of talk about differant guitars... I've only ever really played maybe two guitars and I don't really think about the differant sounds... unless they're acoustic. Once it goes through the amplifier and than the recording and than all the processing and mixing it doesn't seem to matter what kind of guitar it is.
My knowledge of music theory is pretty simple too. I understand the basics but not much of it. Failed that class in high school, they focused way too much on math and the technical side and I got sick of it. I've been looking into it agian and I guess I've had more luck with my own approach than the schools approach.
But I do know that there can be a good deal of bad blood amongst musicians. It attracts some of the most self-centered egotistical kind of people. Are all musicians supposed to be assholes?

Well... Playing fast isn't actually bad for the guitar like he says, that's just dumb. But just because he plays simple things doesn't mean what he plays is shit. I've been a guitar player for 5 years now, most of the time dedicated on the electric guitar learning shredding techniques, scales and methods. But for the past year or so I've been playing almost nothing but chords on my acoustic. I find chords are much more fun to play, because you can kinda just lay back and enjoy the sound rather than put your 100% focus into every note you want to play.

I definitely agree that the guy was being a douche by 1) getting jealous of your playing skills and how everyone was enjoying your music. I've played guitar just a bit no I'm not good, I suck...horribly, but that doesn't mean I can't tell what I like and played I don't like in music and what I think would take talent.
2) dissing your taste in music. Music is about expressing your thoughts and beliefs, not about being better than everyone else. It's an art, not a competitive sport. Although some tend to treat it as such.

I think it's because it's so overused. But I will agree, it has a veyr excellent sound to it, and yeah, for the price you pay, you get that quality.
I have my trusty.... well not so trusty Japanese-made Jackson Rhoads.... The input wire's too short. I make do with it though, and it loves me back :D
