I have a complaint about L4D

The zombies in this game, or infected as some may call them, now heres my complaint.

What is their purpose?

Now zombies in old zombie movies and in many new ones, they have the goal to eat brains, or they want to eat your flesh. Basically zombies and infected can be said to want to eat the living in general.

Well the zombies in Left 4 Dead, no, they do not try and eat you, Heres what they do.

Left 4 Dead Zombies will rush at you in large groups if they are alerted or randomly just decide to come, and they will start swinging at you, punching you and kicking you as you melee them and shoot them away. Then if they down you, they will come up and start ripping you apart and clawing you, and they will start curb stomping you.

Now I ask WHY

They do not want to eat me, what are there purpose, what do they want? what can they possibly achieve in curb stomping and beating the shit out of me D:

They do not ever try and eat me, they just seem to hate me and wanna beat me, am I not tasty? are I not delicious or something?

People have taken a new path to zombies nowadays. Even Capcom with the Resident Evil series. In Resident Evil 4 the zombies just wanted to kill you not eat you. As for Resident Evil 5, it could possibly be both, in other words whatever comes first.

Who knows what the problem is, maybe the idea is that they hate humans and simply wish for blood to fall from their hands. Or something stupid like that. It would be better if they tried to eat you though, but I guess it'd make the job too hard for the zombie in killing you.

These are obviously a more sophisticated zombie. They desire more than just a quick meal of some random flesh. They demand quality. When the are "beating" you, they are obviously attempting to tenderize your think and stringy muscle. This may indeed lead to your death but it is all the same to them. Upon your death they will cook you at a nice 450 degrees until the flaky crust is golden brown and then have you with a nice Chardonnay... The programmers had way to much time to think about the overall characteristics of these undead.

My friends and I had a discussion about this just yesterday. We couldn't come to any specific conclusion however I would tend to think because the infection is so widespread these "zombies" are the new humans that are trying to run a city wide gentleman's club. Since the pathogen has decreased their ability to talk with the survivors who are intruding upon their grounds they have to violently beat the shit out of them. Although the tank is the bouncer the rest also take up security affairs.
