How can they make a sequel of a movie that was based on a famous battle? Not gonna work. But if they do get this to work i can't wait, i love 300!

yes read my link, the new film will be based on the second invasion, I can't remember if that was the last battle where the Greeks finally win, or if there is a thrid wave. I can't remember from my Classical Civ days...

They should have made it a prequel and made it about the war between Sparta and Athens. That would be pretty cool.

It was a badass movie with badass special effects and badass violence, I see no reason why it couldn't be done well again.

I pretty much couldn't agree more. 300 and similar movies are 'action' movies for a reason. They are about special effects, great fight scenes, and stories/plot is irrelevant.
I'm not saying movies can't have a good plot and action, but it really doesn't matter sometimes.

Bah, nothing ever really famous or epic happened with King Leonidas I prior to the Battle of Thermopylae, and he was dead after it. Are they just going to ditch him or something?

Fuck! They should have done it on the naval battles, whith Themistocles. He was more hardcore than Leonidas. Leonidas killed a bunch of poorly armed, poorly trained shit-weak soldiers with the most highly elite, well armed fighting force of the time, and got owned. Themistocles has the same technology as the Persians, still outnumbered, he fucked them up. A movie on him would be much better, and there would hopefully be less semi-nude men.

I think instead of making a prequel or sequel to 300, they should just make another historic battle in the same way they did 300. Then they could make more and more of these movies and instead of it being based on one empire, they could just have a series of historic battles.
Did that make any sence?

Thats what they ARE doing with the sequal. . .
It's based on the SECOND invasion of Greece by the the Persians. 300 was basically part of the first wave of Persian attacks on the Greeks.
And it makes sense that they follow up this battle to the downfall of the Persian Empire in Greece. Becaus ethen it historically acurate, no?
Or almost anyway, there will always be something designed just to entertain in it

Probably about the battle that's alluded in the end, with the whole Spartan army coming down the Persians like a ton of leather-thong clad bricks. And complete disregard to history and good taste.

Also, probably also missing the point of the original legend, about a small group fighting while outnumbered 1000 to 1. Of course, Leonidas and the few others going solo and running through the enemy crowd completely ignores the strategic point of the battle.

The first movie was good, but I really don't think it's good enough to have a sequel. Besides, how can you continue the story, all of the main characters were killed at the end of the movie. Sure, there was a new group of soldiers at the end, but I highly doubt that anyone cared enough about them to want to know what happens next.

300 was good for all the wrong reasons and completely raped its historical background. the prequel, regardless of when its set, will undoubtedly do the same. I'll watch it just for the same reason I watched 300 though - laughably cheesey lines, decent action sequences and... scottish greeks?
I was going to list a large number of historical fuck ups in 300, but I realised that I'd be here all day.
