What kind of school has a History project relating to religion? I take a Theology-based curriculum..? Though older than Jesus...hm. The world, animals, people, Existance, God, anyone over the age of 33...hm. A lot, really.
The Earth is not 6000 years old. Sorry, I couldn't help it. Why do so many believe it is?

Well, religion plays a major role in pretty every society, so to learn about history, it is important to look at the religions and the religious practices that existed in that time period.
Regardless of whether or not there was a Jesus who was born 2000 years ago, that's about when Christianity started. It started, I believe, a short while after his death.
